Julius Caesar is considered one of the greatest military commanders in history and played an important role in the events that led to the downfall of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. He assumed control of the government after a civil war. He was assassinated by rebel senators on the Ides of March, 44 BC.

The wife of Uriah the Hittite, Bathsheba was bathing on her roof when David saw her and had her brought to him. He then got Uriah killed and married Bathsheba. David and Bathsheba’s first child died as a punishment for his sins. She was also the mother of King Solomon.

Arab geographer Muhammad al-Idrisi created over 70 maps. Born in Ceuta, he spent much of his early life traveling around regions of North Africa, Western Europe, and Asia Minor. Advisor to Sicilian king Roger II, he created the Tabula Rogeriana, one of the most detailed maps of the world.

Pope Leo IX went down in history as one of the most significant popes, due to his role in the Great East-West Schism of 1054, which separated the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. His idea of reforming the church including the removal of evils such as clerical marriage.

Nāṣer-e Khusraw was a Persian poet, Isma'ili scholar, philosopher, and traveler. He was also widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the history of Persian literature. Among his most famous works is the Safarnama, which is widely read even today in Iran.

Justin Martyr was a philosopher and early Christian apologist. He is best remembered for his text, the First Apology, which attempts to convince Emperor Antoninus to give up the persecution of the Church. Baba Tahir was an 11th-century Persian dervish poet from Hamadan, Iran. He was a mysterious figure known to lead a very spiritual and stoic lifestyle. A woodcutter by occupation,  he composed poetry in the Hamadani dialect of the Persian language. It is believed that he was a contemporary of the poet Ferdowsi and polymath Avicenna. 

Initially a lawyer, Lanfranc later taught at a school he founded. He eventually renounced his career to enter the Benedictine ministry as a monk. He discovered a conspiracy by some earls against William of Normandy. He later served as the abbot of St Stephen and as the archbishop of Canterbury.

Suidger, better known as Pope Clement II, had initially served as the bishop of Bamberg. He ushered in many reforms and brought in regulations against simony. His death after a trip to Germany was attributed to poisoning with lead sugar, probably by the supporters of his successor, Benedict IX.

Aristobulus II reigned as the King of Judaea from 66 to 63 BCE. He also served as the Jewish High Priest of Judaea during his reign. Aristobulus II succeeded his mother Salome Alexandra to the throne after defeating his brother John Hyrcanus II. He was the last of the Maccabean kings of Judaea.

Ambiorix reigned as the King of the Belgae. Today, he is widely regarded as a national hero in Belgium due to his resistance against the famous Roman general Julius Caesar. Ambiorix is mentioned in Commentarii de Bello Gallico, Caesar's account of the Gallic Wars. Ambiorix's character is portrayed in the popular video game Civilization VI.

Amenemope was an Egyptian author who is often credited with writing a popular Egyptian wisdom text called the Instruction of Amenemope. The work is considered important, for it shares knowledge and advice for successful living. Amenemope, the son of Kanakht, is often portrayed as a sage and scribe who lived during the Twentieth Dynasty of Egypt.
