Dante Alighieri was an Italian writer, poet, and philosopher. His work Divine Comedy is widely regarded as the greatest literary work ever produced in the Italian language and the most prominent poem of the Middle Ages. Often referred to as the father of the Italian language, Dante Alighieri played a crucial role in establishing the Italian literature.

Born to a freed slave, Pertinax joined the Roman army early in life and soon rose to be a commander. He was declared the emperor after Commodus was murdered but was himself killed within three months of his rule. Septimius Severus later organized a state funeral and also deified him.

German philosopher Meister Eckhart is remembered for his Latin and German transcripts that stress on the relationship between God and man. His treatises include Talks of Instruction and the Book of Divine Consolation. His innovative vocabulary also contributed to the German language. However, he was accused of heresy later.

He is remembered for his service as the commander of the Catalan Company. The last days of his life inspired Spanish poet Mariano Capdepón to compose a play, which was later adapted into an opera titled Roger de Flor.

Bernard Gui was a Bishop of Lodève, a Dominican friar, and a papal inquisitor. Gui is widely regarded as one of the most popular medieval inquisitors of all time, thanks to his fictionalized portrayals in today's popular culture. He is most notably mentioned in the 1980 novel The Name of the Rose, which was written by Italian novelist Umberto Eco.

Anvari was a Persian poet and astronomer. He studied science and literature at the collegiate institute in Toon and was a well-educated man. He mainly wrote panegyrics, eulogies, and satires, which were eventually collected in a Deewan. The Cambridge History of Iran has called him "one of the greatest figures in Persian literature." 

Gregory of Sinai was a monk who played a major role in the emergence of Hesychasm in 14th century. He learned the ways of Hesychasm from Arsenios. Gregory of Sinai is also credited with founding a monastery in southeast Bulgaria where he had taken shelter in the Bulgarian Empire in an attempt to escape the increasing Muslim raids on Athos.

Philip IV, or Philip the Fair, was the king of France from 1285 to 1314. His marriage to Joan I of Navarre also made him the king of Navarre, as Philip I. He made France a centralized country. He clashed with English king Edward I, the Flemish, and the clergy.

Duns Scotus was a Scottish Franciscan friar, philosopher, theologian, and university professor. Widely regarded as one of the most prominent philosopher-theologians of the High Middle Ages, Scotus had a major influence on both secular and Catholic thought. In 1993, Duns Scotus was beatified by the Catholic Church. His life and work inspired a 2012 Italian film titled Blessed Duns Scotus.

Hungarian King Ladislas IV, also known as Ladislas the Cuman, was the son of King Stephen V. He spent a part of his childhood imprisoned by rebellious lord Joachim Gutkeled. He later allied with German king Rudolf I to strengthen the Habsburg dynasty in Austria.

Margaret of Scotland was the Queen of Norway, as the wife of King Eric II of Norway. The daughter of Scottish king Alexander III, she was married off to Eric II to strengthen political ties between Norway and Scotland. She was known to have taught Eric French and English.
