Famous People Born In 1485

Catherine of Aragon was one of the most popular English royal consorts of all time. A patron of Renaissance humanism, she gained widespread admiration for starting a program for the relief of the poor. A woman who was ahead of her time, Catherine commissioned The Education of a Christian Woman, a controversial book promoting women's right to education.

Pedro de Alvarado was a Spanish conquistador who later became the governor of Guatemala. He took part in the conquest of Cuba and the conquest of Mexico led by Hernán Cortés. He is credited to have conquered much of Central America. Extremely cold-hearted, he was notorious for his cruelty towards the natives. He died in the Mixtón War in 1541.  

Born to a goldsmith, Urs Graf was initially trained by his father. He later created countless artworks, mostly engravings, etchings, woodcuts, and drawings. A mercenary, he often included military themes in his creations. Woman Bathing Her Feet, his etching from 1513, was one of his best-known works.

Wolf Huber was an Austrian printmaker, painter, and architect who lived and worked in Germany for many years. An important member of the popular Danube school, Huber served as a court painter. His works influenced other artists, including his contemporary Augustin Hirschvogel.

Polish poet, bishop and diplomat Johannes Dantiscus, who was the prince-bishop of Warmia and Bishop of Chełmno, was one of the first representatives of Renaissance humanism in Poland. Known as the Father of Polish Diplomacy, Dantiscus served as a royal diplomat and the royal secretary for over three decades. His notable literary works include his autobiography Vita Joannis de Curiis Dantisci. 

Poul Helgesen was a Danish historian and humanist. He was also an industrious author whose best known work is the unfinished Skibby Chronicle. Poul Helgesen also served as a teacher of theology in Denmark.
