Swedish botanist and lecturer Carl Linnaeus, who established the concept of binomial nomenclature, or the system of naming organisms, is also known as the father of modern taxonomy. His system of classification is known as Linnaean taxonomy. He was the first to include humans and apes under the header Anthropomorpha.

Leonhard Euler was a Swiss physicist, mathematician, logician, geographer, astronomer, and engineer. He is credited with making influential and important mathematical discoveries, such as graph theory and infinitesimal calculus. Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most prolific mathematicians of all time, Leonhard Euler also made pioneering contributions to analytic number theory and topology.

One of the leaders of the Methodist revival movement, Charles Wesley is better known as the author numerous hymns and carols. Love Divine, All Loves Excelling and Christ the Lord Is Risen Today being some of his more popular works.  Averaging ten poetic lines per day for fifty years, he published more than 4,500 hymns, leaving some 3,000 in manuscript.

Carlo Goldoni was an Italian librettist and playwright from the Republic of Venice. He is credited with producing some of Italy's best-loved and most famous plays. His plays are often admired for their ingenious mix of honesty and wit. One of his most famous works, Servant of Two Masters, has been translated into many languages.

Selina Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon was an English religious leader. She played an important role in the Methodist movement in Wales and England and in the Christian revivalism of the 18th century. She is credited with establishing an evangelical branch in Sierra Leone and England, which is now referred to as the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion.

Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon was a French mathematician, encyclopédiste, cosmologist, and naturalist. He is best known for authoring and publishing Histoire Naturelle, an encyclopaedic collection of 36 volumes, which he worked on for 50 years. His work had a strong influence on two subsequent generations of naturalists, including popular French scientists like Georges Cuvier and Jean-Baptiste Lamarck.

The pioneer of military medicine, British physician Sir John Pringle also taught at the University of Edinburgh. He had also served as a physician to King George III of Britain and the Duke of Cumberland. Apart from coining the term influenza, he also identified various types of dysentery as a single disease.

Francisco Salzillo was an 18th-century Spanish sculptor. He worked exclusively on religious themes and almost always used polychromed wood as his medium. Hundreds of the pieces he made are distributed throughout the Region of Murcia. Unfortunately, many of his works were destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. His great nativity scene is considered one of his masterpieces.
