Anne Robert Jacques Turgot was a chief economist of 18th-century France. One of the pioneers of economic liberalism, he was previously clubbed with the economists of the Physiocratic school. Many of Adam Smith’s ideas in the pathbreaking book Wealth of Nations were hugely inspired by Turgot’s.

Jean-Georges Noverre was a French balletmaster and dancer. It is widely believed that he created ballet d'action, a predecessor of the story ballet of the 19th century. Noverre's works continue to inspire and influence several ballet dancers around the world. Such was his contribution to ballet that Jean-Georges Noverre's birthday is celebrated as International Dance Day.

Raja Haji was a Bugis warrior and crown prince of the Johor-Riau Sultanate. An important freedom fighter, Raja Haji spearheaded a number of raids on a Dutch fortress in Melacca before he was shot dead by the Dutch forces. His bravery was later commemorated by the Indonesian government with a National Hero of Indonesia title.

André Morellet was a French economist known for his views on religious tolerance, penal reform, inoculation, and liberty of the press. He advocated for freedom of commerce and sought to bring about reforms to the French political economy. A prolific writer, he made major contributions to the Encyclopédie. He amassed a personal library of over 4,700 titles. 

Copley Medal-winning geologist and meteorologist Jean-André Deluc had initially studied math and natural sciences, before embarking on business tours across Europe. In course of time, he gathered a huge collection of fossils and minerals. His research areas included the mercury barometer. He was later named a fellow of the Royal Society.

Jacob Magnus Sprengtporten was a Swedish-Finnish politician and army officer. He is best remembered for his role in the Revolution of 1772, which ended the age of democratic monarchy in Sweden and ushered in the age of absolute monarchy.
