Godtfred Kirk Christiansen was the managing director of The Lego Group from 1957 to 1973. Credited with developing the Lego brick design and patenting it in 1958, he also established the Lego System in Play, a cornerstone of the Lego construction toy. He played a pivotal role in the company's growth and success, eventually becoming the sole owner. Christiansen stepped down as Leader in 1973, passing the reins to his son Kjeld Kirk Christiansen, who later became president in 1979.
