Famous People Who Died At 16

Edward the Martyr reigned as the King of the English from 975 to 978. The oldest son of King Edgar the Peaceful, Edward was selected as king after his father's death. However, he was killed in 978 at Corfe Castle and was succeeded by his half-brother Æthelred the Unready. Edward is recognized as a saint in the Catholic Church.

Roy Lee Dennis, or Rocky Dennis, was an American boy who suffered from craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, a rare sclerotic bone disorder which results in various neurological disorders. His face was distorted due to his condition, and he died at 16. His life inspired the Academy Award-winning 1985 movie Mask.

Wenceslaus III became King of Hungary following the death of Andrew III whose only daughter, Elizabeth, was engaged to Wenceslaus. Wenceslaus renounced his hereditary rights to Austria and claim to Hungary before succeeding his father as King of Bohemia and Poland. His reign in Bohemia was however cut-short as he was assassinated before he could invade his rival's territories in Poland.

Arfa Karim was a Pakistani computer prodigy. She became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in 2004 and held the title until 2008. She represented Pakistan on various international forums and received Pakistan's highest literary award, the Presidential Pride of Performance, in 2005. The bright young girl suffered from ill health and died at the age of just 16. 

Sara Mustonen was a Finnish alpine skier. In 1977, Mustonen won the gold medal in the slalom event, becoming the youngest skier to win the prestigious Finnish alpine ski championship title at age 14. Sara Mustonen went on to win 25 medals in alpine ski championships between 1975 and 1979. She died in a skiing accident at age 16.

Balthasar Charles, Prince of Asturias was the son of King Philip IV and Elisabeth of France. He was the heir apparent to all the dominions, kingdoms, and states of the Spanish monarchy until his demise in 1646 at the age of 16. Throughout his life, Prince Balthasar Charles was the subject of many of Velázquez's paintings.
