Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, is an Indonesian politician and businessman who served as the seventh president of Indonesia. He rose to prominence as the mayor of Surakarta and later as the governor of Jakarta, where he focused on local politics, infrastructure development, and anti-corruption measures. During his presidency, he prioritized economic growth, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and foreign policy aimed at protecting Indonesia's sovereignty. Despite challenges within his own party, he was re-elected for a second term before eventually supporting a different candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

During his brief term, Habibie liberalized press and political party laws, ended Indonesian occupation of East Timor leading to its independence, and held early democratic elections. Abdurrahman Wahid, also known as Gus Dur, was an Indonesian politician and Islamic religious leader. He served as the fourth president of Indonesia from 1999 to 2001. Widely regarded as a military dictator, he led Indonesia as an authoritarian regime from 1967 until his resignation in 1998. Suharto's 31-year dictatorship is considered one of the most brutal and corrupt of the 20th century, marked by mass killings and widespread corruption. Under his "New Order" administration, Suharto constructed a strong, centralized, and military-dominated government, focused on maintaining stability, economic growth, and anti-communist policies.
