Raphael, an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance, was admired for his clarity of form and visual achievement. Alongside Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, he formed the traditional trinity of great masters. He trained under Perugino and became a fully trained "master" by 1500. Moving to Rome in 1508, he worked on important commissions for the Vatican and other cities. Despite his early death at 37, Raphael was highly productive, leaving behind a large body of work that influenced generations of artists.
