Yusuf ibn Tashfin, a prominent Sanhaja leader of the Almoravid Empire, played a crucial role in the Muslim forces during the Battle of Sagrajas. He cofounded Marrakesh and led the Muslims against Alfonso VI of León in al-Andalus. By achieving victory in Sagrajas, he established an Islamic legal system in the region. In 1061, he assumed the title Amir al-Muslimin, recognizing the suzerainty of the Abbasid caliph as Amir al-Mu'minin. His professional life was characterized by military leadership, strategic victories, and the promotion of Islamic governance.
