Relationship with Tulsi
It is not known exactly when Abraham and Tulsi first met. In an interview, Tulsi once revealed that she had known Abraham for many years. According to reports, the two met while Abraham was volunteering for Tulsi’s ad campaign shoots in 2012. However, that was a purely professional interaction. Then, about a year and a half later, they connected on a personal level at a birthday party hosted by one of their common friends.
Abraham and Tulsi realized that they had many similarities. On their first date, they went for a long walk and later played a pickup volleyball match with a few of their friends. The two bonded over their adventure trips and common interest, surfing.
Surfing plays a significant role in Abraham and Tulsi’s love life. The activity also had a role in Abraham’s marriage proposal to Tulsi. Tulsi had just returned home after a long, hectic day when Abraham wanted to meet her for a sunset surf session. When they left for the South Shore, the sun had started to set. After passing through horrible traffic, Abraham and Tulsi finally reached the shore. Without wasting any time, the two began to paddle while the sun was about to set. Abraham then surfed much ahead of Tulsi and waited for her to reach him. He then proposed to her with a beautiful 1.17-carat diamond ring that he had attached to a gold duct-tape-covered flotation device pulled by a double-tethered contraption. Since then, Abraham and Tulsi have regarded the Hawaiian archipelago as their mutual home. They even made the place their wedding venue. Tulsi and Abraham got engaged in February 2015. The two got married on April 9, 2015.
Tulsi is also known as “the Hawaiian Heartbreaker.” The political website ‘The Hill’ had placed her on their list of the '50 Most Beautiful’ in 2013.
Abraham is Tulsi’s second husband. Her previous marriage was short-lived and had succumbed to her stressful job. She had married Eduardo Tamayo in 2002, and the same year, she was designated to the ‘Hawaii House of Representatives.’ Tulsi represented the 'Hawaii Army National Guard' on a tour of duty in Iraq, and by the time she was back, her perspectives on several social issues had changed, which in turn affected her marriage. Tulsi and Eduardo divorced in 2006.
The Wedding
Abraham and Tulsi had a Hindu Vedic wedding ceremony, which was held in Windward Oahu in Kahaluu, Hawaii. The wedding was conducted by a Hindu priest named Pandit Vinod Dave.
The Vedic marriage took place at the 'Pohai Ke Aloha Pavilion and Garden' at the ‘Kahaluu Fishpond.’ The secluded and peaceful wedding site on the eastern shore of Oahu had a fish pond that the native Hawaiian people once used to feed the village. The wedding ceremonies concluded with a traditional yoga “kirtan,” which the friends and family members of the newly married couple attended.
Abraham supervised the musical arrangements for the ceremony. The wedding menu at the reception was purely vegetarian, as Abraham and his family are vegetarian. Renowned personalities, such as former US senator from Hawaii Daniel Akaka, former governor of Hawaii Neil Abercrombie, US Representative Mark Takai, Honolulu mayor Kirk Caldwell, India’s acting ambassador and charge d'affaires in Washington Taranjit Sandhu, and former US Representative Colleen Hanabusa, attended the wedding. The guest list had ‘Bharatiya Janata Party’ (BJP) general secretary Ram Madhav, who carried a special message for the newlyweds and a gift from India’s current prime minister, Narendra Modi.
Despite being married to a politician and a candidate for the 2020 US presidential run, Abraham keeps himself from commenting about his wife’s political career.
