Relationship with Jeffrey Bruce Atkins
Aisha Atkins first met her future husband Jeffrey Bruce Atkins at the age of 14 when both of them were in school. The two reportedly began dating in 1994 and she became pregnant with their first child soon after. She gave birth to their only daughter, Brittney Atkins, the following year. The couple welcomed their second child, a son named Jeffrey Jr. Atkins, in 2000. After having two kids together, the longtime love-birds finally decided to tie the knot on April 14, 2001. In 2005, she gave birth to their third child, another boy, named Jordan Atkins. Her husband, who was raised as a Jehovah's Witness throughout most of his childhood, identified himself simply as a Christian. He and Aisha both became Christians officially after they were baptized in 2013, when he was promoting the movie 'I'm in Love with a Church Girl'. The couple currently lives with their children in Bergen, New Jersey. Her husband calls her by the nickname 'Ish'.
Controversies & Scandals
Aisha Atkins' husband Jeffrey Bruce Atkins has had run-ins with the law several times throughout the 2000s. He was fined $1,200 for punching a man in Toronto in 2003 and then was investigated in 2004 in connection with a feud that led to a fatal shooting outside a nightclub party that Jeffrey Bruce Atkins had hosted with Leon Richardson. Also in 2004, he was arrested for driving with a suspended license and possessing marijuana. However, the incident that shook the family most was his arrest in July 2007 on gun and drug possession charges, along with Lil Wayne and Don Rhys. After his argument that the gun was illegally obtained evidence was rejected by the court, he pleaded guilty to attempted possession of a weapon and was awarded a two-year prison sentence on December 13, 2010.
Jeffrey Bruce Atkins began to serve his sentence in Rikers Island in June 2011, but was later sent to a state facility in Upstate New York. In July, he received an additional 28-month prison sentence for tax evasion of more than $3 million between 2004 and 2006. For that, he was immediately taken into federal custody to serve six more months in jail after his initial release from state prison on February 21, 2013. However, he was eventually released from prison early on May 7, 2013. Aisha, who stood beside her husband and supported their moms and their children, found herself in the midst of another controversy after several adultery rumors spread about her husband in the media. While some reports claimed that he had homosexual relationship with a prison inmate, others reported on his ongoing involvement with author Karrine Steffans. Aisha refuted some of the rumors in an interview with 'TMZ' and also visited her husband regularly each week despite a 9-hour return trip. After he was released in 2013, another report claimed that he was leaving his family for a prison cellmate. However, he not only dismissed the claims, but later posted a picture of them kissing on Instagram to put the rumors to rest.
