Interestingly, she even managed to avoid the media after the birth of her daughter in December 2012, as her husband, a first-time father at 67 years, attracted all the attention. She was assigned to check one of his comedy pieces, for which she had to call him several times. The two talked over phone for about a year before meeting in person. Martin, who is an introvert despite being a celebrity, reportedly was intrigued by deeply shy Stringfield. Speaking of their first meeting, he would later describe her with a line from Wordsworth saying that she is probably the kind of beauty that inspired the Romantic poet to write "that whole 'violet by a mossy stone' thing".

After three years of dating, the two secretly got married at a surprise party at Steve Martin's Los Angeles home on July 28, 2007.
