Antony Michael Hall was born on April 14, 1968 in West Roxbury, in Boston, Massachusetts to mother Mercedes Hall, a blues-jazz singer, and father Larry Hall, who owned an auto-body shop. His parents divorced when he was only six months old.
Along with his mother, he relocated to the West Coast when he was only three. Later they moved to New York City, where Hall grew up. He studied at St. Hilda & Hugh’s School of New York. Later, he attended Manhattan’s Professional Children’s School.

Career
Antony Michael Hall started appearing in commercials when he was only seven years old. At the age of nine, he made his stage debut portraying a young Steve Allen in the semi-autobiographical play ‘The Wake’.
At the age of 12, he appeared in the Emmy Award winning TV movie ‘The Gold Bug’. In 1982, he appeared in the American comedy film ‘Six Pack’ which slowly brought him to popularity.
Hall gained prominence for his work in the 1983 American road comedy film ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’. He portrayed the on-screen son of the lead actors. The film did well commercially, grossing four times its budget. It received mostly positive reviews. He next played an important role in the 1984 comedy film ‘Sixteen Candles’.
In 1985, he appeared in the comedy drama ‘The Breakfast Club’, in a significant role. The film won him a ‘Sliver Bucket of Excellence Award’. He then played lead roles in films such as ‘Johnny Be Good’ (1998) and ‘A Gnome named Gnorm (1990).
Other films he starred in over the next few years include ‘Into the Sun’ (1992), ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ (1993), ‘Trojan War’ (1997) and ‘2 Little 2 Late’ (1999). He portrayed Bill Gates in the 1999 television movie ‘Pirates of Silicon Valley.
He has also played guest roles in several TV series. He played the lead role in the TV series ‘The Dead Zone’ a science fiction drama series which aired from 2002 to 2007.
The films in which he appeared in the 2000s are ‘The Cavemen’s Valentine’ (2001), ‘Freddy Got Fingered’ (2001), ‘Funny Valentine’ (2005), ‘LA Blues’ (2007) and ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008).
In 2013, he appeared in the horror action film ‘Dead in Tombstone’ playing a main role. The same year, he played the lead role in a horror TV film ‘Zombie Night’. His latest movies include ‘Results’ (2015), ‘War Machine’ (2016) and ‘Bodied’ (2017).
