William Albert "Billy" Burke is an American former singer and actor. He is best known for playing Charlie Swan in the 2008 romantic fantasy film ‘Twilight’ and its sequels. He has also garnered appreciation for his performances in the films ‘Red Riding Hood,’ ‘Lights Out,’ and 'Breaking In'. Burke initially started off as a singer. After taking part in numerous singing rehearsals and attending music lessons during his early teens, he joined a band at the age of 15. He continued to perform in various bands during his late teens and simultaneously studied drama at the Western Washington University. Burke eventually made his film debut in the 1990 independent film ‘Daredreamer’. Since then, he has appeared in important roles in both films and TV shows. Today, he is a household name owing to his appearances in the ‘Twilight’ film series.

Career
Billy Burke began his acting career in 1990, appearing in the independent flick ‘Daredreamer’. Following his guest appearances in many TV shows including ‘Party of Five’, ‘Vanishing Son’ and ‘All-American Girl’, he did the made-for-television movie ‘Gone in the Night’. In 1998, the actor starred in ‘Don't Look Down’, a horror flick about a lady who struggles to cope with her sister’s death by joining a group helping those with acrophobia. That year, Burke also played Joey Cortino in the comedy movie ‘Mafia’ that starred Lloyd Bridges, Christina Applegate and Jay Mohr.
The year 2000 saw him in the mockumentary ‘The Independent’ as well as in the ABC drama ‘Wonderland’. A year later, Burke had a role in the neo noir psychological thriller 'Along Came a Spider'. Although the film received negative to mixed reviews, it became a box office success. From 2002 to 2004, he featured in the drama series ‘24’, ‘Gilmore Girls’ and ‘The Jury’. During this time, the actor also appeared in the movies ‘Lost Junction’ and ‘Ladder 49.’
In 2008, Burke’s career reached new heights when he played Charlie Swan in the romantic fantasy film ‘Twilight’. He later reprised his role in ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ and ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,’ which were released in 2009 and 2010, respectively. During this time period, the actor also had roles in the TV shows ‘My Boys’ and ‘The Closer’. In 2011, he portrayed the character of Cesaire in the romance horror film ‘Red Riding Hood’ and also featured in Twilight’s sequel ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1’. This was followed by his appearance in ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ which released a year later.
From 2012 to 2014, Burke appeared on television in the role of Miles Matheson in the sci-fi series ‘Revolution’. Soon after the show ended, he joined the cast of ‘Major Crimes’ as serial killer Phillip Stroh and also began playing Mitch Morgan in ‘Zoo’. In 2016, he starred in David F. Sandberg’s directional debut ‘Lights Out’. The supernatural horror movie was commercially successful and grossed $148.9 million against its $4.9 million budget. In 2018, he played the role of Eddie in the thriller ‘Breaking In’.
