Caleb faced the camera for the first time in 2014, in the 'J House Vlogs' introductory video 'FIRST VLOG!' Since then, he has been regularly featured on the channel’s vlogs. The April 2016 video titled 'EMERGENCY STITCHES!,' which showed Caleb getting multiples stitches on his head, has been one of the most-viewed vlogs of the channel. Caleb was born on February 11, 2012, in Kansas City, Missouri. His elder brother, Isaac, was born after Kendra suffered a few miscarriages. Caleb has an elder sister named Elise and two younger siblings, Laura and Janae. On the family blog, Kendra has described Caleb as someone with a '' dynamite personality." He is always high on energy, unpredictable, and "endlessly one step ahead" of her.

All the Johnston kids have been homeschooled so that they can devote enough time to the channel. However, they recently made a vlog that claimed the children would no longer be homeschooled. Soon after, Caleb and his siblings were shown to attend a summer school. The Johnston family currently lives in Puerto Rico.
