Caspar Jopling Biography

Caspar was born on January 10, 1992, in Yorkshire, England, to Hon Nicholas Jopling and Jayne Warde-Adam. His father belongs to a family of farmers in the Thirsk area. Caspar’s grandfather, Michael Jopling, is a former MP and has served as a deputy lieutenant of North Yorkshire.

Caspar's parents are divorced. He often posts pictures with his sisters on his 'Instagram' account.

Caspar studied at 'Eton College.' He was the vice-captain of the college’s 'Boat Club' and the secretary of the 'Eton College History of Art Society.' Caspar majored in history of art and architecture from 'Harvard University.' He would participate in many curricular activities at ‘Harvard.’ He was a member of the 'Varsity Men's Heavyweight Crew' ('Harvard Heavies'). He also served as the director and editor at 'Harvard Student Agencies Video,' a professional and affordable video production service. Caspar was a social chair of the 'Harvard College British Club.' In addition, he was a member of 'The Hasty Pudding Club,' a social club for 'Harvard' students. While studying at 'Harvard,' Caspar also briefly joined the 'London Film Academy' to learn the craft of cinematography and film and video production.

In 2010, Caspar participated in the 'Youth Olympic Games' held in Singapore. He participated as a boat rower, representing 'Team Great Britain.' A picture of Caspar rowing the team’s boat can now be seen at terminal 5 of 'Heathrow Airport.' After completing his term at 'Harvard University,' Caspar moved to New York City.

Caspar began his career in January 2013, as an intern at 'ICM Partners,' a talent and literary agency. During his internship, he assisted a senior agent from 'MP Talent,' an 'ICM' partner, in coordinating their clients’ trips, communicating with managers, and managing client requests. Caspar then spent 2 months interning at the post-war and contemporary section of 'Christie's,' a British auction house.

Caspar bagged his first full-time job at 'Sotheby's,' a British-founded American multinational corporation and one of the world's largest brokers of fine and decorative art, jewelry, real estate, and collectibles. He began working as a graduate trainee at 'Sotheby's' and then served as the CEO of its contemporary art department for about 2 years, from August 2015 to July 2017. Caspar currently handles corporate development and strategy at the contemporary art department of 'Sotheby's.' Caspar’s decision to make a career in the field of art auction was influenced by his uncle, Jay Jopling. Jay was a huge investor in the domain of auction and was thus a reputed individual in the world of art.

Caspar Jopling is engaged to popular singer Ellie Goulding. They have been in a relationship since April 2017. The rumors of their affair first surfaced after they were spotted together at a karaoke night in Mayfair. Ellie has often spoken about how Caspar helped her combat exhaustion and depression. Ellie took a break from her tours and live performances, and that helped their romance blossom.

Caspar and Ellie’s engagement was announced through an article in 'The Times.’ They now live in their SoHo apartment in New York and split their time between New York and London.
