Christopher Charles Wood, professionally known as Chris Wood, is an American television actor famous for playing the character of ‘Kai Parker’ in the American supernatural drama television series ‘The Vampire Diaries’. He made his debut at the age of twenty-two in a television short film titled ‘The Magazine Girl’ after which he appeared in a number of television and film productions in minor and supporting roles. Before appearing in the ‘The Vampire Diaries’, Chris played the character of ‘Adam Weaver’ in the American teen comedy-drama television series ‘The Carrie Diaries’, in six episodes. After the success of ‘The Vampire Diaries’, Chris appeared in popular television shows like ‘Comedy Bang! Bang!’, ‘Containment’, and ‘Mercy Street’ before getting one of the lead roles in ‘Supergirl’, an American superhero action-adventure television series. The four-time Teen Choice Award nominee appeared in one episode of ‘The Flash’ in 2017.

Career

Chris Wood started his journey in show business on the Broadway. He played Melchior in the national tour of ‘Spring Awakening’ and later portrayed ‘Joe Hardy’ in Paper Mill Playhouse's production of ‘Damn Yankees’. In between, he made his debut on television with the role of ‘Devin’ in the television short film titled ‘The Magazine Girl’ in 2010. He appeared in another television film titled ‘Browsers’ three years later, portraying the character of ‘Justin’.

In 2013, Chris appeared in one of the episodes of ‘Major Crimes’, an American television police procedural series created by James Duff, where he portrayed the character of ‘Brandon North’. In the same year, he appeared in ‘The Carrie Diaries’, an American teen comedy-drama television series based on the book of the same name by Candace Bushnell. He played the recurring role of ‘Adam Weaver’ in six episodes.

Between 2014 and 2017, he appeared in ‘The Vampire Diaries’, an American supernatural drama television series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, playing the role of ‘Kai Parker’ alongside Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, and Steven R. McQueen. He played the role of ‘Jake Riley’ in the American limited series ‘Containment’, based on the Belgian TV series ‘Cordon’.

In 2016, he appeared in two episodes, ‘Balm in Gilead’, and ‘The House Guest’, of ‘Mercy Street’, an American period medical drama television series created by Lisa Wolfinger and David Zabel. He bagged his first role as a superhero when he was signed for the role of ‘Mon-El’ in ‘Supergirl’ in 2016.

Chris Wood was born in Dublin, Ohio, the USA, on April 14, 1988. He graduated from Elon University in Elon, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Theater in 2010. Since the sad demise of his father from an untreated mental condition, Chris has been very outspoken on issues related to mental illnesses. He is an ambassador for Mental Health America and works selflessly to create awareness about mental health. He has also launched his own website called ‘I Don’t Mind’ which helps people struggling with mental illnesses.

In 2017, Chris started dating actress Melissa Benoist. In 2019, the couple got married. In 2020, they welcomed their first child named Huxley Robert Wood.
