Clairo, born Claire Cottrill, is an American lo-fi singer/songwriter and recording artist. She went viral with her song "Pretty Girl," which has garnered over 34 million views on ‘YouTube.’ Associated with soft and intimate vocals, she started sharing her music online as a teenager in 2013. Meanwhile, she joined ‘YouTube’ and began posting acoustic covers of songs by artists such as Frankie Cosmos, Alex G (Sandy), and ‘The Cure.’ Clairo became a sensation in 2017, when her self-written song "Pretty Girl" went viral. Since then, she has been making music and entertaining her fans from around the world. The talented artist is also known for being the daughter of renowned marketing executive Geoff Cottrill, who has worked at many prestigious companies, such as ‘Coca-Cola,’ ‘Converse,’ and ‘Starbucks.’ Whenever she is not singing or writing songs, Clairo is seen studying and spending time with her family and friends. In 2017, she joined ‘Syracuse University.’

Clairo started composing at the age of 13. She started posting her music videos to ‘Bandcamp,’ under the names ‘Clairo’ and ‘DJ Baby Benz.’ After releasing dozens of home recordings in 2013, she released her EP ‘Do U Wanna Fall in Love?’ (2014). This was followed by a few more EPS in 2015, such as ‘Aquarius Boy,’ ‘Late Show, Moth Girl,’ ‘Metal Heart,’ and ‘Have a Nice Day.’ During this time, Clairo became active on ‘YouTube’ with her acoustic covers. She went on to make covers of popular songs by Alex G, Frankie Cosmos, and ‘The Cure.’
Then, in 2016, she came up with a split EP titled ‘Keel Her Split,’ which she recorded with established lo-fi musician Keel Her. The year also saw her release ‘Creased Laundry’ and ‘Brains a Bus Station.’
In 2017, Clairo became an overnight sensation when her song "Pretty Girl" released on ‘YouTube.’ The song’s music video garnered millions of views and also became popular on various ‘Facebook’ groups. "Pretty Girl" has earned over 34 million views as of June 24, 2019. Its success drew attention from major labels such as ‘Capitol,’ ‘Columbia,’ ‘RCA,’ and ‘Fader Label.’ Clairo signed a 12-song record contract with ‘Fader Label.’
Also in 2017, she contributed to the songs "How Was Your Day?" and “Girl” as a featured artist. She was also featured in "You Might Be Sleeping" from the album ‘Bedroom Tapes.’ The video of her song "Flamin Hot Cheetos," too, was uploaded to ‘YouTube’ that year.
On May 25, 2018, Clairo's debut record, ‘Diary 001,’ was released by ‘Fader Label.’ She also released two non-album singles, "Better" and "Drown," that year. In July, Clairo performed at New York’s ‘Bowery Ballroom.’ In October, she performed at ‘Lollapalooza.’ She performed at ‘Coachella’ in 2019.
In 2019, she came up with the non-album singles "Sis” and "Bubble Gum.” On May 24, 2019, she released a new track, "Bags," from her upcoming album, ‘Immunity’ (scheduled to release in August 2019).

Clairo was born Claire Cottrill, on August 18, 1998, in Carlisle, Massachusetts, US, to marketing executive Geoff Cottrill.
