Rise to Stardom
DJ Akademiks, who had turned to hip-hop music to cope with the cultural shock of moving from Jamaica to the United States, began posting blogs to rap forums when he was still in school. After entering Rutgers University, he went a step further by trying his hands at music production, but the initiative was not very successful due to lack of proper networking. Around this time, he began serving as a DJ for his college radio on Saturday nights, which developed his confidence. With this success, he began invited to be the DJ for local barbecue parties and events, pictures and videos from which he often shared on his social media profiles. This gave him exposure on the internet, which in turn helped him get offers from all across the state of New Jersey.
He continued to DJ for radio and parties for the next two years, but then decided to host his own website, 'Late Night Creep', to cover the latest news related to the hip-hop industry. It took him less than a year to turn the website into a full-fledged hip-hop blog which registered huge amounts of traffic. As the popularity of his website grew, he became more adventurous with the topics he covered and began posting his personal opinion and talked about high-profile beefs as well. In October 2012, he created the YouTube channel 'LateNightCreepVids' to post satirical news videos on entertainment, with a passionate and thorough coverage of hip-hop. He soon posted interviews with entertainment news celebrities like Ms. Drama and Charlamagne tha God. However, his popularity skyrocketed after he uploaded over 600 videos covering an incident at the 2015 Summer Jam Fest Jersey that saw the arrest of 61 people. His channel is considered one of the most reliable and consistent sources on hip-hop news by fans.

Controversies & Scandals
DJ Akademiks recently found himself amidst a serious controversy after a rival hip-hop blog, hiphopoverload.com, claimed in late November 2018 that he is the confidential informant who is working with the federal agents against rapper Tekashi69 in the racketeering case. The blog published an article claiming that Akademiks was the snitch according to the lawyer of Tekashi's former manager, Kifano Jordan, aka Shotti. It also called him the "fake BFF" who became the informer to avoid being slapped a federal obstruction of justice charge that could have jailed him for at least five years.
Following the allegations, Akademiks claimed his innocence in the case in an exclusive interview with 'TMZ' in which he stated that he had "never been questioned or much less cooperated in this" and that he saw the defendants as "good people". 'TMZ' also published a statement from Shotti's lawyer Scott Leemon, who blatantly denied giving any interview regarding the case implicating someone. Despite all these, he could not escape heat on the internet as many continued to blame him for posting content on his blog and YouTube channel that could incriminate the defendant. It did not help either that he often shared weird things on Instagram or dropped names during Twitch streams.
Personal Life
DJ Akademiks was born as Livingston Allen on May 17, 1991 in Spanish Town, Jamaica, but relocated to New York, United States at the age of 10, in 2001. A shy kid, he had difficulty in fitting into the new culture, as well as in his new school. He mostly spent time with a handful of Jamaican friends and grew very fond of hip-hop music during this time. He enrolled into Rutgers University in New Jersey, from where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biomathematics. Following graduation, he continued to take classes regularly to get a master's degree in Math Finance. He is dating Dominican glamour model and social media personality Angelica Ggx, with whom he recently had a public argument on Twitch.
