Career: His Rise as a Gamer on Social Media

DreamWasTaken began his social-media career as a gamer. He primarily creates Minecraft playthroughs and commentary videos on YouTube and other platforms.

He rose to fame with his YouTube channel, Dream. He launched the channel on February 8, 2014. It has now gained more than 6.75 million subscribers and over 584 thousand views. He also collaborated with BadBoyHalo for his YouTube Minecraft videos.

There are two other channels on YouTube that feature his videos. The first, Dream Team, launched on November 14, 2019, describes itself as a “channel for Dream and his friends…” It has around 736 subscribers and over 12 million views. The second, DreamXD, was created on August 22, 2019, and boasts of around 1 million subscribers and more than 37 million views. DreamWasTaken’s flagship channel promotes both these channels.

Dream’s initial content on YouTube mainly consisted of vlogs and random videos with friends. His obsession with video games contributed to his Minecraft videos later. In middle school, Dream spent up to 8 hours every day playing Minecraft. Over the years, he had to study more and play less of Minecraft. However, he made sure he devoted time to the game daily.

Dream’s experience with coding helped him create unique challenges on Minecraft that other creators could not make. His channel earned 5 million followers in just 6 months. On August 1, 2020, he announced through Twitter that he will not copyright any reaction videos or highlight videos of his content, as long as credits were given.

Dream, however, refuses to reveal his face in his videos and live streams. Even in his online interview with Butch Hartman, Dream appeared as his gaming avatar. Fans recognize him through his peculiar laugh.

Dream’s oldest-known video, 1000 subs, was posted on July 13, 2014. Dream was part of a project to find PewDiePie's Minecraft world seed. He began the Minecraft Manhunt YouTube trend, apart from creating the Unsolved series and survival challenges. He co-owns BadBoyHalo's Minecraft server, MunchyMC.

He is equally popular on Facebook. His Facebook page has been liked by more than 1.3 thousand people and has over 2.3 thousand followers. He launched his Twitter account, DreamWasTaken, in August 2010 and has over 419 thousand followers on the platform. He is on Snapchat as dreamrepublic.

His Instagram account, dreamwastaken, has earned more than 293 thousand followers, in spite of not having too many posts in it. He has posted a few photos of his pet cat, Patches, on Instagram.

On July 22, 2020, he posted a photo of himself dressed in a hoodie, without revealing his face. His fans think this is a prelude to a “face reveal.”

He sells his own brand of merchandise, such as T-shirts, hoodies, backpacks, mugs, and phone cases, on dreams.is. His Twitch account, dreamwastaken, has gained over 563 thousand followers.

On August 4, 2020, Dream promised to reveal his face (with a mask on) if his “tweet” got 50 thousand “retweets” in a week. After realizing that people could “retweet” it more than once, he raised the goal to 100 thousand “retweets.”

Relationships: Is Dream Dating Someone?

Though some fans suspect Dream has broken up with his girlfriend, most believe Dream is gay and is in a relationship with his friend and Minecraft video collaborator, GeorgeNotFound. Dream and George are frequent collaborators but did not meet in person before July 13, 2020.

In Beating Minecraft with One Inventory Slot…, Dream gave George flowers and continued to try and get George to say “I love you.” In November 2019, Dream gifted George $5,000 to spend on Amazon. The amount was a lot more than what he had gifted his other friends, Sapnap and BadBoyHalo.

On April 1, 2020. George “tweeted” that Dream and he were going to get married. However, George later jokingly “tweeted” that the wedding had been called off. Toward the beginning of Pride Month, George responded to one of Dream’s “tweets” with “Love you Dream.”

In July 2020, Dream deactivated his second Twitter page as a mark of protest against George’s flirtatious behavior with Maia (mxmtoon). The whole fiasco turned out to be a joke, but rumors of George and Dream being a couple surfaced with new vigor. Their fans have already started calling them “DreamNotFound.”
