He is best known for writing and directing the 2010 comedy horror film ‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.’ The film was premiered at the ‘Sundance Film Festival’ and went on to gather positive responses from critics. The film increased Craig’s popularity as it received many nominations and awards at various film festivals and award ceremonies. Craig started his career as an actor, playing minor roles in films, such as ‘Deal of a Lifetime’ and ‘The Rage: Carrie 2.’ He made his directorial debut in 2004 when he directed a short film titled ‘The Tao of Pong.’ Subsequently, he went on to direct films like ‘Little Evil’ and ‘Zombieland’ (TV movie). Childhood & Early Life
Eli Craig was born Elijah Matthew Craig on May 25, 1972, in Los Angeles, California, USA, to Steven Craig and Sally Field. His parents got divorced when he was just three years old. When his father moved to Oregon, he started living with his mother who encouraged him to pursue filmmaking. However, Craig started working as a mountain guide for ‘Outward Bound’ after graduating from college. As an ‘Outward Bound’ instructor, he led several mountaineering expeditions to mountains, such as ‘Pico De Orizaba,’ ‘Aconcagua,’ ‘Denali,’ ‘Mt. Whitney,’ and ‘Mt. Rainier.’ Simultaneously, he started making short comedy videos along with his brother Peter Craig. He then decided to pursue a career in filmmaking and got himself enrolled at a film school.

Career
Eli Craig made his acting debut in 1999 when he was cast to play Kevin Johnson in the Paul Levine-directed romantic comedy film ‘Deal of a Lifetime.’ In the same year, he also played Chuck in the supernatural horror film ‘The Rage: Carrie 2.’
In 2003, he worked as an editor for a short documentary film titled ‘Intertwined Lives.’ The following year, he wrote and directed a short film titled ‘The Tao of Pong’ which marked his directorial debut. But it was not until 2010 that he became famous as a director.
His 2010 comedy horror film ‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil,’ which has Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, and Katrina Bowden playing important roles, received favorable reviews from critics. It also won several awards, giving Eli Craig the much-needed recognition as a filmmaker. Awards won by the film include: ‘Best Film’ at ‘Sitges Film Festival,’ ‘Best First Feature’ (Jury Prize) at ‘Fantasia Festival,’ ‘Audience Award’ at ‘SXSW Film Festival,’ ‘Best Feature Film’ at ‘Ampia Awards,’ and ‘Best Screenplay’ at ‘Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.’
In 2010, he directed an episode titled ‘Get a Room’ for the popular American television drama series ‘Brothers & Sisters.’ In 2013, he directed an adventure-comedy TV movie titled ‘Zombieland.’ In 2017, he wrote and directed a comedy-horror film titled ‘Little Evil’ which starred Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly.
