Eve Mavrakis Biography

Eve Mavrakis entered the film industry in the late 1980s when she worked as the production interpreter for the China unit of Steven Spielberg's 1987 film 'Empire of the Sun'. In 1988, she served as an assistant art director to Steven Friars in his Oscar-winning film 'Dangerous Liasions'. In 1993, she went on to work as the art director for one episode of the TV series 'The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles'. In 1994, she moved to production design for the film 'Bandit Queen'.

Later in 1995, she did production design for the series 'Kavanagh QC' and also served as the assistant art director on one episode. During this time, she met her future husband Ewan McGregor, who was one of the stars to appear on the show. Throughout the 1990s and the first half of the 2000s, she continued to work as a production designer for several films and television movies. Since then, she has appeared as herself in the miniseries 'Long Way Round' and 'Long Way Down', and often accompanied her husband to various events and award shows. She most recently made news headlines after her 22-year-old marriage to McGregor ended in separation in 2017.

Eve Mavrakis first met Ewan McGregor in 1995 when both of them were working on the television series 'Kavanagh QC'. McGregor, who had been with several women in the past, was immediately drawn to her and made the decision that she was the one for him. The two were married on July 22, 1995. The couple has four daughters together, among whom one is adopted from Mongolia. Eve gave birth to their first daughter, Clara Mathilde McGregor, in February 1996. They welcomed their second daughter, Esther Rose McGregor, on November 7, 2001. In April 2006, the couple adopted their third daughter, Jamiyan McGregor, who was born in June 2001. Their fourth daughter, Anouk McGregor, was born in January 2011.

Eve Mavrakis' husband Ewan McGregor had admitted in an interview on 'The Graham Norton Show' in 2012 that he had been with many women before he met Eve in 1995. However, in the same interview, he had claimed that right after meeting her on the set of 'Kavanagh QC', he wanted to be with her, and not the way he had been with women in the past. Nevertheless, he had been linked with several of his co-stars over the years. It is rumored that while filming for 'Moulin Rouge' in 2001, he was involved in a relationship with Nicole Kidman. Later on, in 2010, tabloids began speculating about a budding romance between McGregor and French actress Melanie Laurent while both were shooting for the film 'Beginners'. He has always denied any such rumors of him being unfaithful towards his wife Eve and again confirmed in 2012 that they were "comfortable in each other’s company" and that he loved the "feeling of having been with someone for a really long time". Unfortunately, in October 2017, a picture of Ewan McGregor and his 'Fargo' co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead locking lips at a cafe went viral on social media. His oldest daughter Clara subsequently created a controversy by calling Mary "a piece of trash" on Instagram, but later admitted that it was not one of her finest moments. In January 2018, it was reported that Eve had already separated from Ewan and that their divorce proceedings had started. They briefly got together during Clara's graduation ceremony in May, but the divorce battle turned ugly over spousal support in October 2018.

Eve Mavrakis was born on June 22, 1966 in Dordogne, France to Greek immigrant parents. However, she spent part of her youth in China. She was born into a Jewish family and has raised her children as Jewish as well.
