Frances McDormand is an Academy Award-winning American actress, best known for her performance in Fargo. She is one of three adopted children of a Canadian-American couple and was born in Chicago, Illinois. She spent her early childhood in several small towns across Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee as her father served as a Disciples of Christ pastor before the family settled in Monessen, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Monessen High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater from Bethany College in West Virginia. She later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama. Frances made her film debut with Blood Simple and is one of the few performers to have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting. She has also won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Marge Gunderson in Fargo. She is married to director and writer Joel Coen, and they have an adopted son, Pedro McDormand Coen, whom they adopted from Paraguay.
