Career & Fame
Gaston Bolanos started with Muay Thai, at the ‘F-14 School of Champions’ in Lima, Peru, when he was just 10 years old. His natural inherent talent quickly shone through as he started racking up victories in junior amateur fights. At the age of 13, he moved to California, USA, with his father.
As luck would have it, the Muay Thai training gym ‘Fairtex Mountain View’ was close to his home. He started training there without hesitation under the watchful eyes of professional trainers Jongsanan Fairtex and Kirian Fitzgibbons. This was also the beginning of his longtime partnership with trainer Fitzgibbons, who remains his coach and guardian to date.
At the age 16, Gatson was nicknamed ‘The Dreamkiller’ for his attitude. Once the ‘2008 IFMA World Championships’ in Busan, South Korea was over, Gatson came to the decision to take up combat sports as a full-time profession. But being a minor he needed a legal guardian and his father was already making plans to move back to Peru.
It was here that the bond between Gatson and Kirian Fitzgibbons became stronger, as Fitzgibbons decided to become his legal guardian. This allowed Gatson to finish high school and he moved to Dublin, California, to become a professional fighter at ‘Combat Sports Academy’, under Kirian.
Gaston started fighting men twice his size and age and won most of the fights. His astounding amateur record stands at 23 victories, 3 losses, and only one draw. It is also well recorded that during an amateur fight at the ‘6-Flags theme park’ in California, his arm was illegally injured by an older opponent who was losing. Gatson not only continued fighting, but knocked him out with a straight right cross.
His achievements in Muay Thai are a testament to his growth and skills. He is a two-time ‘South American Muay Thai Champion’ and even became the ‘United States Muay Thai Champion’, a feat that established him as a lethal force in the world of kickboxing. He also represented the USA twice, at the ‘IFMA World Championships’.
Once he went professional, Gatson made his debut against Brian Del Rosario at ‘Lion Fight 14’. He ended the fight with a ‘spinning elbow’ straight to the face of Rosario. This was the professional debut of his famous ‘spinning elbow’ or ‘hellbow’ which he continues to use with incredible efficiency in his career. In pro-kickboxing, he has an incredible record of 8 wins and 0 losses after his only loss against Khronpet Phetrachapet at ‘Lion Fight 27’ was overturned.
With all these accolades it was only natural that Gatson Bolanos made his way to MMA. He announced on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast that he had been signed by ‘Bellator MMA’. His multi-platform deal allows him to compete both in MMA and Muay Thai. He made his MMA debut against Abner Perez on February 18, 2017, and won via TKO in round one.
Unfortunately, he lost his second match against Brandon Laroco by Technical Submission, on September 23, 2017. Since then, he has gone on to win all three of his recent fights against Rick Gutierrez at ‘Bellator 189’, Malcolm Hill at ‘Bellator 199’, and Ysidro Gutierrez at ‘Bellator 206’, making him one of the fastest rising fighters.
