Childhood
Giannina Maradona was born in Argentina, on May 16, 1989. She grew up in the limelight. She is the younger of the two children of retired Argentinean footballer Diego Maradona and his wife, Claudia Villafañe. Her elder sister, Dalma Nerea Maradona, was born two years prior to her.
Diego was an accomplished playmaker and attacking midfielder who is known for his classic number 10 jersey. He is regarded as the greatest footballer of all time by many sports reporters and football fanatics.
Giannina’s parents were introduced to each other when their families became neighbors in 1976. Their long-term relationship culminated in marriage in the latter half of the 20th century, after the birth of their younger daughter, Giannina.
Diego and Claudia’s marriage was alleged to be turbulent for the better part of their relationship, due to Diego’s substance abuse issues and frequent news reports of his extra-marital affairs. Eventually, they parted ways in 2004, citing irreconcilable differences. Giannina’s sister, Dalma, has been quoted as saying that the divorce was the best solution for all, as her parents remained friends after the divorce. However, Giannina was not happy with the divorce.

Personal Life
After dating briefly, Giannina married her boyfriend, football star Sergio Agüero, in 2008. Their marriage was a private event, held in the presence of their closest friends and family. Agüero is an Argentinian professional footballer who plays as a striker for ‘Premier League’ club ‘Manchester City’ and the Argentinean national football team.
Incidentally, Agüero’s record of being the youngest footballer to play in a first-division game for Argentina was previously held by his father-in-law, Diego Maradona.
On February 19, 2009, a year after her marriage to Agüero, Giannina gave birth to their son, Benjamin, in Madrid.
The couple split in 2012, after four years of marriage, following reports of Agüero’s infidelity. It was alleged that he was dating Argentinean pop star Karina Tejeda while he was married to Giannina.
Sergio confirmed rumors surrounding the relationship by making public appearances with Karina. After being together for five years, Karina left him while he was recovering from a rib injury following a car crash. When asked by a reporter to comment on the accident, Giannina replied nonchalantly that she was not aware of it and had found out about it through the reporter.
This was just the beginning of a catastrophic personal life that went further downhill when Giannina’s relationship with her father soured in 2015. She and her sister stood by their mother following the fraud case filed by their father against their mother. Diego Maradona claimed to have been swindled out of US$ 9 million of his hard-earned money by his ex-wife and former manager, Claudia Villafañe, during a live TV show for ‘Canal America,’ in 2015.
Labeling his ex-wife and childhood sweetheart, Claudia, a “thief,” Diego alleged that Villafañe had bought not one, but seven luxurious properties in one of the tallest residential skyscrapers in Miami, Florida, from the money stolen from his bank account.
In 2017, after Giannina Maradona made an appearance in Uruguay, during the fraud case proceedings, and returned a few hours later, Diego accused his daughter of having been involved in the embezzlement scam, helmed by Claudia. After making headlines for his explosive comments on his family, Diego called for Giannina to be jailed for being an accomplice in the alleged theft.
An emotional Giannina responded to the allegation, saying that she had forgiven worse behavior from her father and would continue to do the same. The bitter legal tussle is still pending as the Maradona family drama plays out in the public eye.
Giannina continues to maintain a low profile, keeping her professional engagements and relationship status under wraps.
Giannina made a special appearance, via satellite, on her father’s commercially acclaimed weekly TV show, ‘La Noche del 10’ (The Night of the No. 10), named after Diego Maradona’s legendary jersey number.
