Ginger is an American actor, improviser, writer, and director. She is best known for her debut role in the comedy 'Ted.' The half-Filipino and half-Dutch actor has been trained at renowned improvisation theaters, such as 'The Groundlings' and 'The Second City,' and has performed live at various comedy venues in Los Angeles. Ginger is a national-level debater and impromptu speaker. She has also been part of some prominent TV projects. She has appeared in TV series such as 'The Morning After,' 'Legit,' 'Angel from Hell,' and 'I'm Dying Up Here.' She was cast opposite actor Jim Carrey in the TV series 'Kidding.' Ginger was born Ginger Tapp Gonzaga, in Pennsylvania on May 17, 1983, and grew up in Modesto, Stanislaus, California. She is the daughter of Adele L (Tapp) and Christopher Deipirine Gonzaga. Ginger’s father is from Cebu, the Philippines. Her mother is white and is believed to be Dutch. Ginger now lives in Hollywood, California.Ginger graduated from the 'University of California,' Santa Barbara, with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in Chinese. In her sophomore year, Ginger attended a show at 'The Groundlings,' an improvisation and sketch-comedy theater. She auditioned for 'The Groundlings' and was selected immediately. There, she learned a lot about improvisational theater. She later received training at 'The Second City,' an improvisational comedy enterprise based in Chicago. After graduating, Ginger participated in the 2009 'CBS Diversity Sketch Showcase.' She has also performed at various comedy clubs in Los Angeles and at the US military bases in South Korea.
Before Ginger began her acting career, she was a national-level debater and impromptu speaker. She is passionate about singing, too.
Ginger had a passion for stage comedy since childhood. As a child, she would dress up like her Cebuano grandmother. To make her appearance more realistic, she would draw wrinkles on her face. She would then mimic her grandmother in front of her neighbors. In college, Ginger lived with male roommates. She had not discovered her humorous side back then. However, her roommates would steal all of her jokes and use them to impress girls.

In 2012, Ginger made her acting debut in with the comedy film 'Ted.' She played ‘Gina’ in the movie. Earlier, from 2011 to 2012, Ginger had written 45 episodes and hosted 345 episodes of the 'Hulu' daily comedy 'The Morning After.' Ginger was next seen in the ‘FX’ sitcom 'Legit.' Ginger played ‘Peggy’ in a few of its episodes, from 2013 to 2014. In 2014, Ginger replaced Mercedes Masohn in the ‘ABC’ sitcom 'Mixology.' She essayed the role of ‘Maya,’ a sports attorney, in the sitcom. The same year, she gained fame as ‘Juanita’ in the romantic comedy 'Someone Marry Barry.' The following year, Ginger was seen as ‘Lady J’ in the 'Comedy Central' sketch-comedy series 'Key and Peele.'
In 2016, Ginger was seen as ‘Christy’ in the 'HBO’ comedy–drama series 'Togetherness.' The same year, she bagged the role of ‘Emma’ in the ‘TBS’ comedy series 'Wrecked.’ This was one of her most prominent roles. She portrayed the character of ‘Kelly’ in the 'CBS’ comedy 'Angel from Hell.' Ginger was also seen as ‘Jill’ in the movie ‘Dean' that premiered at the ‘Tribeca Film Festival.’
Ginger played ‘Lorena’ in the 'Hulu' drama series 'Chance' and ‘Crystal’ in the 'NBC' sitcom 'Trial & Error.' From 2017 to 2018, Ginger was seen as ‘Maggie’ in the 'Showtime' comedy–drama series 'I'm Dying Up Here.' The same year, Ginger made her directorial debut with the film 'Your Day.' She also wrote the screenplay of the film and played the role of ‘Jane’ in the movie. The film was screened at the 'Florida Film Festival,' the 'Atlanta Film Festival,' the 'Cinequest Film Festival,' and the 'Julien Dubuque.' In 2018, Ginger played ‘Dana’ in the 'NBC' comedy 'Champions.' She was cast as ‘Vivian,’ opposite actor Jim Carrey, in the 'Showtime' series 'Kidding.' Ginger played ‘Alia’ in the 'Freeform’ comedy series 'Alone Together.'

For a long time, Ginger was rumored to be dating a mysterious man with whom she had shared a few pictures on her 'Instagram' account. She had referred to the man as her “bf” (interpreted as “boyfriend”) on many occasions.
Ginger is now dating Hollywood actor Jim Carrey. He was Ginger’s co-actor in the series ‘Kidding.’ On January 5, 2019, Jim and Ginger made their red-carpet debut as a couple at the 'Showtime Golden Globes Nominees Celebration,' held in West Hollywood, California. On January 6, 2019, Jim and Ginger appeared as a couple at the 76th annual ‘Golden Globe Awards' ceremony, thereby confirming their relationship.
