Grian set up his main channel on November 22, 2009, but the oldest upload there, a video titled ‘Zombie Dungeon Timelapse – Wynncraft Creation’, was posted about five years later, on August 4, 2014. However, the channel started to grow rapidly soon after he started posting. Prior to becoming active on his self-titled channel, he was associated with a YouTube channel called CraftedMovie. His experience there played an important part in the success of his own channel.

Active from 2011 to 2015, CraftedMovie was a Minecraft cinema channel, created by people who had appeared in short cinema clips. Grian was one of the few members who joined later. His specific job was to build sets. He created sets for a considerable period of time and later began to make appearances in the videos due to audience demand. He created a new character, utilizing a Minecraft version of Link, the lead character from the video game, ‘The Legend of Zelda’, as his skin.

At one point, CraftedMovie was one of the most popular Minecraft channels on YouTube and played a pivotal role in introducing the cinema-type content in the game. However, by 2014, the channel began to lose subscribers quite rapidly as their content was not as engaging as it used to be. Grian and several others subsequently decided to pursue other options. Moving on to build up his own channel, Grian found stunning success. These days, each of his videos receives hundreds of thousands of views. The most popular video on his channel is ‘How NOT to Build in Minecraft (Common Building Mistakes)’, with over 10 million views.

In the time between the slow downfall of CraftedMovie and the meteoric rise of Grian’s channel, he and the other creators collaborated on a major project called Wynncraft. Inspired by classic MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Role-Playing Game)-type games, Wynncraft was an immensely successful venture and drew in several Minecraft players who were interested in MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) games. Grian spent three years developing the project and garnered his initial group of fans because of it. Wynncraft has since become the largest MMORPG in Minecraft with about two million regular players.

He became an “Evolutionist” or a member of the Minecraft Evolution SMP in January 2017. The SMP gave the players the opportunity to play in the older versions of the game as all the “Evolutionists” started at the Beta version of Minecraft. He eventually left Evo in August 2018, right after he had become part of Evo 1.7 and had announced the news on Twitter.

In July 2018, Grian joined yet another Minecraft server, named HermitCraft, first appearing in HermitCraft Season 6. He is the first and only new recruit of the server in this season to date. One of his fellow Hermits, Mumbo Jumbo, has been a long-time friend of Grian. In fact, he had once shot a documentary on Grian and his cats.

Grian’s tutorials primarily concentrate on how to get better in the building of certain objects, including pillars, towers, roofs, and rustic houses. The last has turned into a running joke on his channel.

Grian’s success on YouTube has made him popular on other platforms of social media as well. He has thousands of followers on both Twitter and Instagram. He also has a Facebook page, on which he has accumulated about eight thousand followers. Furthermore, Grian has a secondary YouTube channel, ‘Two Much Grian.’ Set up on November 3, 2013, it has over 36 thousand subscribers. However, he had posted only one video there as of mid-November 2018.

Grian’s real name is Charles. He was born on August 9, 1993, in England. Little is known about his family and early life except that he has a sister. He is currently engaged and has plans to get married in the summer of 2020.
