Rise to Stardom

Hasley Pitman, a first year law student, was stuck at home with her two teenage sisters Hope and Halle due to COVID-19 lockdowns in spring 2020 when they started to watch TikTok videos to kill boredom. The three sisters, who have significant age difference, were able to bond through the app. It was their mother who first suggested that they make TikTok videos together, following which the sisters created a joint profile and started making videos of them dancing, lip-syncing and acting in April.

As only Halle is a professional dancer among the three sisters, she often taught the other two various trending dances. One of their early videos, in which they danced to the tune of the Lady Gaga song Poker Face, went viral on the platform, helping them surpass one million followers on TikTok within months. Hasley, who remained very down-to-earth despite quick fame, believes that their content initially stood out because the three sisters incorporated their different dance styles in their videos. The sisters had also started posting on Instagram and YouTube, and had gained another 45k fans between the two platforms by August that year. By that time, they had signed with WME talent agency and had travelled to Los Angeles, California, several times to collaborate with other social media creators, including the Wright brothers, whom Hasley now considers among her best friends.
