Early Life & Career

J.I. was born on September 23, 2001, in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. He developed a liking towards music very early in his life. In fact, he had become an expert rapper by the time he turned 11. He created his YouTube channel around the same time, but did not start using it straightaway. He was 14 years old when he first showed off his rapping skills to the world. Since then, J.I. has gone on to become a prominent battle rapper, taking part in many competitions throughout the States.

He received his big breakthrough when he was chosen to be a part of the second season of ‘Lifetime’ channel’s reality television series ‘The Rap Game.’ J.I became a popular contestant as he was pinned against a famous rapper called Lil Key. Though he did not go on to win the reality show, he did manage to gain some popularity as a rapper. In 2016, he released a freestyle video titled ‘Quiet Storm,’ which became a massive hit on the internet. In the same year, he released a remix version of singer Kehlani’s popular number ‘CRZY.’

By the end of 2016, his YouTube channel had gathered more than 500,000 views. As of now, his channel has accumulated over four million views and more than 93,000 subscribers. He usually posts music videos on his channel. Some of his most viewed videos include ‘Run It Up,’ ‘Why U Mad Ft. Nova & Lil Key,’ ‘You Never Know,’ and ‘Quiet Storm Freestyle.’ In 2017, he featured some of his fans in a video titled ‘Why U Mad.’ One of the reasons for his success as a rapper is his impressive lyrics, which is usually on par with that of seasoned artists.

With more than 489,000 followers on his Instagram account, J.I. is popular on the photo and video-sharing app as well. He has posted a number of photos and video clips that depict his professional as well as his personal life. He has also posted pictures of himself performing on stage alongside popular artists. On September 30, 2018, he posted a video along with his girlfriend.

Growing up listening to Nas and Tupac, J.I. had decided pretty early in his life that he wanted to become a rapper.
