James McVey is the lead guitarist and backup vocalist of the British pop rock band ‘The Vamps’. The other members of the band are: Brad Simpson, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans. Before forming the band, McVey released a solo EP album on iTunes, titled ‘Who I Am’. It was in 2011 that he first met Bradley Simpson through YouTube. Not even a year later, Tristan Evans and Connor Ball too collaborated with McVey and thus led to the formation of the band ‘The Vamps’. McVey has spunk in him that is widely prevalent in his music compositions and vocals. He took his inspiration from Owl City. As talented as he is on stage, he has looks to kill. With six pack abs and a wide grinning smile, he is every girl’s fantasy. McVey is highly ambitious as a person. When he was working solo, he aspired to form a British pop rock band and once that was achieved with the formation of The Vamps, he went further and decided to own a record label, which he eventually did and is called Steady Records’. Aiming to go further, McVey surely seems to be one of the most promising musicians on the scene.

Career
James McVey’s career in music started early. Though people recognize him as the lead guitarist and backup vocalist of the band The Vamps, McVey’s musical journey began when released his solo EP on iTunes, titled ‘Who I Am’. The album included tracks like ‘For Sun and Rain’, ‘Who I Am’, ‘Move My Way’, ‘You’ and ‘Brightest of Colours’.
It was in 2011 that McVey first met Bradley Simpson via YouTube. During that time, James McVey was already managed by Richard Rashman and Joe O'Neill of Prestige Management. Wanting to form a band, McVey paired with Simpson almost instantly. The duo began writing songs. In 2012, Simpson and McVey met Tristan Evans through Facebook. The trio then met Connor Ball via a mutual friend. In mid-2012, the band started uploading cover songs to their YouTube channel which earned them much attention.
In July 2013, The Vamps uploaded their first original song, ‘Wildheart’. In just about two days, the video received more than 46000 views on YouTube. Following its success, they came up with their debut single “Can We Dance” which received 1 million views in its first week itself. In 2014, the band came up with its debut album ‘Meet The Vamps’. It debuted at #2 on the Irish Albums Chart.
Following the stupendous success of their album, The Vamps launched their own record label ‘Steady Records’. Almost immediately after, they came up with their second studio album ‘Wake Up’. Its self-titled lead single debuted and peaked at #12 in the UK Singles Chart and at #10 in the UK Albums Chart, selling over 27 thousand copies in the country in its first week.
On October 2016, The Vamps released their autobiography, called ‘The Vamps: Our Story 100% Official’. At the same time, they came up with their latest single ‘All Night’ that peaked at #24 on the UK Singles Charts, #6 on IRMA, #13 on VG-Lista and #12 on RMNZ. On the Canadian Hot 100, the song peaked at #72. ‘All Night’ has become the most charted and certified single of the band and their most streamed song on Spotify.

James McVey was born as James Daniel McVey on April 30, 1994 in Chester, England. He has a sister Sophie. The family moved to Bournemouth, Dorset when McVey was four years old. McVey started his singing career by posting videos of him covering songs on his YouTube channel. During his schooling days, McVey’s favourite subject was history. He was so fascinated by the subject that his then-girlfriend gifted him a history book as a present.
