The camera bug caught on to Jenn quite young. She was 8 years old when she first stumbled upon her parents’ old video camera in a forgotten box. It was an outdated thing, but she loved making random recordings and even did the editing herself in Movie Maker on her Dell laptop. Four years later she started her own YouTube Channel in 2009. It was a time when YouTube was yet to become the go-to platform for every person of every age. Half the people around Jenn hadn’t even heard of it. Yet she made an impression and her channel took off logging in quite a few subscribers in those early days. She made cute music videos and silly skits. Her YouTube channel currently has over 3.4 million subscribers.

Apart from her primary channel (jennxpenn), Jenn Mcallister also started two other personal channels - jenn and jennxpenngames. Jenn is a personal vlog channel while jennxpenngames featured her gaming prowess. She later deleted the jennxpenngames channel and currently connects with her viewers with the other two.

In 2009, Jenn joined the group MyCollab, created by supermac18. In the channel, Jenn featured alongside other successful YouTube contemporaries like Jonah Green (mutantboyfriend). The channel was hugely successful and Jenn amassed a lot of followers. Sadly, the channel was dissolved due to conflict between members.

Among other collaborations, she joined the YouTube Channel, AwesomenessTV, with fellow YouTube stars Andrea Russett, Arden Rose and Lauren Elizabeth. She made individual videos for the channel but soon went on to host a special show titled JennxPenn’sTop 10s where she listed the top 10 contenders on various topics.

Year 2014 onwards, the channel focused on Jenn’s move to LA and her life with roommate and friend Andrea Russett through a program titled Jenn and Andrea/Andrea and Jenn Show. The program followed Jenn and Andrea’s life in LA, their dreams and aspirations and how they are coping with the challenges of the move. The program continued till the duo moved in a bigger place with fellow YouTubers, Arden Rose and Lauren Elizabeth.

She also worked with Teen.com featuring in Stranger Danger where she conducted a series of public prank videos along with YouTubers, Joey Graceffa, and Meghan Camarena aka strawburry17.

She has also worked with non-profit organization Our Time where she urged young Americans over the age of 17 to vote for the upcoming elections of USA.

She has successfully authored a full-fledged book titled Really Professional Internet Person which came out in August, 2015. The book is based on her own life and experiences as a successful teen social media influencer, her future aspirations and goals.

Jenn Mcallister made her foray into acting along with fellow YouTube star, Luren Elizabeth with the GRB Entertainment production Bad Night in 2015. Since early 2016, she is acting regularly in the Original Series Foursome with fellow YouTubers including Logan Paul and Meghan Falcone. The series shows the adventures of Andy (played by Jenn) while she tries to dodge her older brother Alec’s efforts into diminishing her dating life. The show is produced by AwesomenessTV and is distributed through YouTube Red, the platform’s paid services.

Jenn has been nominated for several prestigious awards including Choice Web Star: Comedy and Choice Web Collaboration in the 2014 Teen Choice Awards. The nominations were based on the video she shot in collaboration with Lohanthony, Rebecca Black, ThatSoJack, and Andrew Lowe, titled "Fab Five in Real Life". She was also nominated for the Teen Choice Female Web Star during the 2016 edition of the Award. She has won the Best actress for the Streamy Awards in 2016 for her portrayal of Andy and her woes in the series Foursome.

Jenn McAllister was born in Pennsylvania, where she resided till 2013 before moving to LA for exploring her career further. Her parents are very supportive of her career and stood by her in 2012 when her three channels were hacked and deleted. The hacker also posted online a document publishing all sorts of personal info including address, phone number and passwords. They also attacked her iCloud account deleting all her photos and contacts. She mentioned in her book that it was a dark time in her life that hampered her professionally as well as personally. The incident was reported to the police, the perps were eventually caught and the accounts were restored, but Jenn was still plagued by insecurities and nightmares afterwards.

What makes Jenn McAllister the viewers favorite is her affable personality and sharp sense of humor. Her delivery is no-nonsense yet super funny. She loves to tackle subjects on her channel that are important to teens and youngsters. Her prank videos are epic and have the viewers in splits. Even her choice of name for her channel is super witty, combining her name and place of residence through a tiny x. She is smart, she is funny and she is real.

Since she was 19 years old, she has been openly bisexual.
