She rose to fame after appearing on singer G-Dragon’s music video ‘That XX.’ Subsequently, she was also featured on his single ‘Black.’ ‘YG Entertainment’ had been promoting the debut of ‘Black Pink’ for a long time and Jennie finally made her debut as part of the band alongside Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé on August 8, 2016. Rise to Fame

At the age of fourteen, Jennie Kim was signed by ‘YG Entertainment’ in South Korea. However, she did not start her singing career immediately after signing the contract and underwent training for 6 years. Not only did she work on her vocals but also developed her skills in rapping. ‘YG Entertainment’ had been developing the band ‘Black Pink’ for some years and started advertising their debut in 2012. The final members of the band were revealed on June 29, 2016. Band members Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa finally made their debut on August 8, 2016. Their first album ‘Square One’ featured tracks, such as ‘Boombayah’ and ‘Whistle.’ ‘Whistle’ became the number one hit on the ‘Goan Digital Chart’ and the video of the song became viral on YouTube. This made the band an overnight sensation and they became the highest rated female K-pop band on the ‘Billboard Social 50.’

Jennie Kim and her bandmates achieved a new milestone in their career after the release of their new single ‘As If It’s Your Last,’ which released on June 22, 2017. The music of the song was distinctly different from that of their previous releases, and it debuted on top of ‘Billboard's World Digital Song’ chart. There was no stopping them as they continued to hog the limelight. They decided to make their debut in Japan on August 30, 2017, with their extended musical play ‘Blackpink.’ The EP debuted at number one position on the ‘Oricon Albums Chart.’ On January 2018, Jennie was chosen as the new model for ‘Chanel Beauty.’ She shot her first pictorial for the brand with ‘Harper's Bazaar Korea’ as their new muse. On April 2019, she became the first Korean solo artist to perform at ‘Coachella.’

Controversy

Though Jennie Kim has tried to stay away from controversies, she was involved in a controversial incident when she appeared on an episode of the comedy show ‘Knowing Bros.’ In a made-up conversation with Kim Youngcheol, she was asked which city she had lived in New Zealand. To this, she replied ‘Do you know any cities in New Zealand?' Her reply offended many and she chose not to react to the backlash.
