Career
School life hadn’t been a pleasant experience for Ferguson. He was bullied mercilessly for playing the violin to his classmates as it was perceived to be an instrument for the girls. He would often end up hiding after school to avoid the beatings or the stones thrown at him. Despite this, the musical side of him thrived during his teenage years. He began to appreciate classical music, teaching himself Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’. He learned to play the cello and piano as well.
In 2005, Jinxx played guitar for the Los Angeles based band ‘Amen’. In the same year, he joined Christopher Hall’s ‘The Dreaming’. The group released their debut studio album ‘Etched in Blood’ in 2008 through ‘Dream Corpse’ label. He left in 2009 when Andy Biersack contacted him, and told him that he was reforming his originally Cincinnati- based band ‘Black Veil Brides’.
The current roster of the group is made up of Biersack (lead vocalist), Pitts (lead guitarist), Jinxx (rhythm guitarist, violinist, and back-up vocalist), Ashley Purdy (bassist and background vocalist), and Christian "CC” Coma (drummer). The band, with their preference for heavy makeup, body paint, and tight black studded clothing, are heavily influenced by the style and music of the 1980s’ glam metal acts, including ‘KISS’ and ‘Mötley Crüe’.
Their debut studio album ‘We Stitch These Wounds’ sold 10,000 copies within the first week of its release. It was put out through ‘Standby Records’, and later became the only album by the band to feature Sandra Alvarenga on drums as she left the group shortly after and went on to become a member of ‘Modern Day Escape’. In November 2009, Jinxx and his band went on the ‘Pins and Needles Tour’ with ‘The Birthday Massacre’. They provided support to ‘Murderdolls’ in their 2011 ‘God Save The Scream Tour’.
The second studio album by the band, ‘Set the World on Fire’, was released on June 14, 2011, through ‘Lava Records’ and ‘Universal Republic Records’. The title track of the album was featured in the ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Moon’ soundtrack, and was the official theme song of the WWE pay-per-view event ‘Hell in the Cell’ in 2011. The music video for the fifth single of the album, ‘Rebel Love Song’, won the 2011 ‘Alternate Press's Music Video of the year’ award. The group released their sole ‘EP’ on iTunes on December 13, 2011. It had three original tracks, ‘Coffin’, ‘Rebel Yell’, and ‘Unholy’. Their song ‘Unbroken’ was part of the ‘Avengers Assemble’ soundtrack, released on May 1, 2012 through Hollywood/Marvel Records.
‘Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones’, which is a rock concept album, was released on January 8, 2013. ‘In the End’, its lead single, was chosen to be one of the theme songs of 2013 ‘Hell in the Cell’, and also part of the EA Sports' NHL 14’ video game soundtrack. It also won the band two ‘Golden Gods’ awards.
On October 27, 2014, the band put out their self-titled fourth studio album. It reached #20 on the ‘Billboard 200’ chart. Jinxx and the others headlined ‘The Black Mass’ tour in 2014. Their first live DVD ‘Alive and Burning’ topped the ‘Soundscan Music DVD chart’ in 2015. The group released the first single, ‘The Outsider’, from their upcoming fifth album on December 21, 2016.
Jinxx has also been a member of the collaborative music project ‘Team Cybergeist’.
