John Corbett was born on May 9, 1961 in Wheeling, West Virginia, USA to Sandra and John Marshall Corbett who were not married at the time of his birth. His parents got married when John was two years old, and divorced later on.

He was raised by his mother and stepfather. As a Catholic, he served as an altar boy at St. Joseph's Cathedral for about seven years.

Corbett studied at Wheeling Central Catholic High School and graduated in 1979. Following his graduation, he went on to stay with his father and stepmother.

He worked for Kaiser Steel for six years. Later, he enrolled at Cerritos College and studied hairdressing and acting there.

Career

John Corbett first acted in the 1988 comedy-drama series ‘The Wonder Years’. Three years later, he landed a role in the movie ‘Flight of the Intruder’.

During 1995 and 1996, he featured in four episodes of the series ‘Days of Our Lives’. Soon after this, he started playing Adam MacArthur in the sci-fi series ‘The Visitor’.

The actor starred as Ian Miller in the 2002 romantic comedy film ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’. In 2003, Corbett featured in the drama series ‘Lucky’. The following year, he did the films ‘Raising Helen’ and ‘Raise Your Voice’.

He played a role in the TV movie ‘Hunt for Justice’ in 2005. In 2006, he released his debut album ‘John Corbett’ featuring the hit single "Good to Go". A year later, the actor starred as John Burwell in the Pang Brothers’ supernatural horror film ‘The Messengers’.

From 2009 to 2011, he played Max Gregson in Showtime’s comedy drama series ‘United States of Tara’. During this time, he also featured as the male lead opposite Nia Vardalos in the film ‘I Hate Valentine's Day’.

Following a role in the family adventure film ‘Ramona and Beezus’, Corbett played Seth Holt in the TV drama ‘Parenthood’ from 2011 to 2015. He released his second album titled ‘Leaving Nothin' Behind’ in 2013. A year later, he had a role in the romantic movie ‘Kiss Me’.

During 2015 and 2016, he played Josiah Bacon in the series ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll’ and also did the films ‘The Boy Next Door’ and ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2’.

The actor was cast in the series ‘Still the King’ and ‘Mata Hari’ which aired during 2016 and 2017. He also featured in the movies ‘All Saints’ and ‘To All the Boys I've Loved Before’ during this time period.

In 1990, John Corbett started playing Chris Stevens in the comedy-drama television series ‘Northern Exposure’ that focussed on the eccentric residents of a fictional town in Alaska. The series ran till 1995 and got 57 award nominations, out of which it won 27, including two Golden Globes and four Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

From 2000 to 2003, the actor played Aidan Shaw in HBO’s hit series ‘Sex and the City’. Also starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon, the show follows a group of four women who remain inseparable despite their different characteristics and ever-changing sex lives.
