He was suspended from the police department, after he was arrested for stealing a hammer and dog repellent from a store. There is no clear information about his life for a few years after being expelled from service. There are records to show that DeAngelo worked at a distribution centre for the grocery store, ‘Save Mart,’ for over 25 years. He carried on his criminal activities for several years, without raising the slightest suspicion. Though he did not follow the same modus operandi, there were some factors that connected a single suspect to all the crimes. DeAngelo had the unique way of tying his victims, which led the officials conclude that the suspect had military connections. After for more than 40 years, the officials were able to track down Joseph James DeAngelo. It was the modern DNA testing technology that helped them nail the criminal.
