Early Career
Josie started modeling at the age of 15. She was a good dancer and practiced dancing for 12 years, but always pursued it as a hobby and not as a career option. As a teen model, Josie has posed for brands such as 'Kohl's' and 'Hollister.'
Josie got an opportunity of a modeling photoshoot, which subsequently helped her work with several modeling agencies. Toward the end of her schooling, Josie finally got an agent. She then moved to New York and made her modeling debut. At the age of 17, Josie signed with 'Next Models.'
In New York, Josie's first modeling job was for 'Love Magazine.' She then appeared on 'VH1' reality 'Hollywood Exes,' along with her mother. In 2014, Josie appeared in the second season of the 'YouTube' series 'Summer Break.' The following year, Josie featured in the music video 'Kygo: Here for You,' which also featured Ella Henderson.
Josie and her model friend Canadian-born Charlotte D'Alessio came under the spotlight after their photos, shot by photographer Bryant Enslava at the 'Coachella Music Festival,' went viral. All the leading modeling agencies offered to work with Josie. She then auditioned for the 2016 'Sports Illustrated' swimsuit issue. That year, she became the 'Playboy Playmate of the Month' for the month of June 2016. Her pictorial for the title was shot by South African photographer Henrik Purienne. Josie and her mother again appeared together on a reality show 'The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition,' a 'Lifetime' reality show featuring six famous mother-daughter duos mending their broken relationships through therapy.
In June 2017, Josie walked at the 'Moschino' resort runway show and was featured in a few 'Victoria's Secret' 'PINK' collection campaigns that hinted her future runways shows for the brand. In August 2017, Josie was spotted at the casting call for the year's 'Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.' Unfortunately, she could not make it to the runway, which she conveyed to her fans through a "tweet." That could have been her debut as a 'Victoria's Secret Angel.'
She finally walked the year's 'Victoria's Secret Fashion Show,' in 2018. Josie has also modeled for designer Sherri Hill. She also actively posts on 'Instagram,' where she has over 490 thousand followers.
Family & Personal Life
Josie was born Josiphene Marie Canseco on November 5, 1996, in Weston, Florida, USA. She has no siblings. Josie's father, Jose Canseco, is former 'Major League Baseball' (MLB) outfielder, while her mother, Jessica Canseco, is former model, television personality, and a cosmetic tattoo artist. Josei has Cuban-American ancestry.
She has had a dysfunctional family. Her father, who was one of the biggest MLB stars with titles such as 'American League Rookie of the Year' and 'AL MVP,' had several criminal charges on him. He earned a bad-boy reputation off the field for being arrested under charges of rash driving, weapons possession, domestic violence against Jessica, physical altercations, probation violations, and steroid consumption. Josie's parents ended their marriage in 1999.
Josie, however, has nothing against her father; she is rather proud of him. She even acknowledges how he helped her with financial insights when she first moved to New York.
Josie became the stepdaughter of world-renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeon Garth Fisher, when her mother, Jessica, got married to him on June 23, 2007. This marriage, too, ended in a divorce, in 2011.
Josie dated hip-hop artist Mike Stud from 2015 to 2019. Soon after she broke up with him, rumors of her affair with Brody Jenner began circulating. He, too, had just broken up with Kaitlynn Carter.
According to 'TMZ,' Josie and Brody first met at a press tour for 'The Hills' in New York. They were introduced to each other by Brody's show co-stars, Brandon Thomas Lee and Frankie Delgado. Some sources, however, suggest that they might not be in a steady relationship at the moment as they both are just out of their past relationships.
Brody's 'Instagram' account, however, tells a different story. In August 2019, he posted an 'Instagram' photo with Josie, who commented with romantic emojis. Brody's mother, Linda Thompson, also commented on the picture with similar emotions.
Josie follows a grueling gym schedule at 'Dogpound,' the celebrity fitness center in New York City. She loves boxing and takes classes at 'Rumble Boxing' weekly. She also often visits 'SoulCycle,' a New York City-based fitness company offering indoor cycling sessions.
'Moschino' has been Josie’s favorite runway show to date. She would, however, love to walk for Alexander Wang or Phillip Plein in the future.
During her early childhood, Josie volunteered on farms at various shelters that eventually made her an avid animal lover. She would go to a farm right after her school and spend the rest of the day there. Even though Josie has not turned into a complete vegan yet, she hopes to create a non-profit for neglected and abused animals in the future. She also plans to start a family dance studio.
