By the time the channel was discontinued, it had amassed around 1.7 million subscribers. While already a moderately successful YouTuber even before she dated Anthony, her relationship and subsequent collaboration with him gave her career a big boost and also added to her personal popularity.

Initially she had told her fans that Kalel Cullen is her real name; however, later it was revealed that her actual name is “Kristin Smith.” Her fans felt betrayed as she had lied to them about her real identity. Kalel is also accused of fabricating several details about her family. She had lied about having Scottish ancestry and falsely claimed that her mother was Native American. She also professes to be an animal rights activist and vegan, but has been spotted consuming animal products on several occasions. On her vlogs, she promoted some beauty brands that test on animals which earned her the wrath of genuine animal rights activists. They accused her of hypocrisy as real vegans don’t support animal testing. Additionally, Kalel is also accused of promoting negative body image among youngsters. Her break-up with former fiancé Anthony Padilla was also surrounded in controversy as Anthony accused her of emotionally manipulating him.

Kalel was born on March 30, 1989 in Missouri. No credible information about her parents or siblings is available as the details she herself had provided about her family were found to be fabricated. In 2010, she began dating popular YouTuber Anthony Padilla. The two became very close over the following years and got engaged in 2013. However their relationship was a tumultuous one, as Anthony revealed later. The couple broke their engagement in late 2014. Soon after the break-up, Kalel started dating again. In 2015, she revealed the identity of her new boyfriend to be Alec Rosa. This relationship came to an end within a few months. In 2016, she announced to her followers that she was once again in a relationship, this time with a guy called Cyrus who she had met at a New Year’s party in Las Vegas.

Kalel is a self-professed animal lover and shares her home with two cats; she often posts pictures of her cats on her social media profiles.
