Katharine Wilder Biography
(Gene Wilder's Daughter)
Katharine Wilder is an American actor and the adopted daughter of legendary actor, screenwriter, director, and producer Gene Wilder. Katharine was born to Mary Joan Schutz through her previous marriage. When Mary, a friend of Wilder’s sister, began dating him, Katharine started calling him “dad.” This led the actor to feel that "the right thing to do" was to marry Mary and adopt Katharine, and he did exactly as he felt. He adopted Katharine the same year he married Mary. The marriage lasted for 7 years, with Katharine doubting that Wilder was having an affair with Madeline Kahn, his co-star from ‘Young Frankenstein.’ This affected the otherwise strong relationship between Katharine and Wilder, and Katharine eventually severed all ties with Wilder. Wilder, who wrote several novels and memoirs, also wrote a book for Katharine, titled ‘Kiss Me Like a Stranger: My Search for Love and Art.’ However, he doubted if his daughter would ever read it. Katharine has appeared in the films ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ and ‘Branagh Theatre Live: Romeo and Juliet’ and in the TV series ‘Frontier.’
