Kim Delaney is an American actress who is best known for playing Detective Diane Russell in ABC’s series ‘NYPD Blue’ for which she garnered an Emmy Award. She is also known for her roles in the drama series ‘All My Children’, ‘Philly’, ‘CSI: Miami’ and ‘Army Wives’. Born as the only daughter to a senior executive of the United Auto Workers and a homemaker, Delaney grew up with her four brothers. She dreamed of becoming a court reporter in childhood but started modelling while in high school, eventually garnering commercials after moving to New York. Her first job as an actor was as an innocent teenager in the 1981 soap opera ‘All My Children’. Since then, Delaney has appeared in numerous films, television movies and dramas. Her personal life, unlike her professional one, hasn’t been successful and happy. The talented actress has struggled with alcoholism in the past and has been through two failed marriages. In 2005, she lost the custody of her only son.

Childhood & Early Life
Kim Delaney was born on 29 November 1961 in Philadelphia, USA, to Joan, a homemaker, and Jack Delaney, a senior union executive in the United Auto Workers. She has two elder brothers named Ed and John as well as two younger brothers, Keith and Patrick.
While studying at J. W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School, she started modelling. Following graduation, she moved to New York and continued as a model. During this time, she also studied acting at The William Esper Studio.

Career
Kim Delaney began her acting career with a role in the 1981 soap opera ‘All My Children’. Her performance in the show as an innocent teenager earned her a loyal fan base along with an Emmy Award nomination.
She made her big screen debut in 1985, appearing as Cathy Carlson in the drama flick ‘That Was Then... This Is Now’. The following year, she played a young nun in ‘The Delta Force’, a military action movie starring Lee Marvin and Chuck Norris.
In 1987, the actress featured in four episodes of ‘L.A. Law’ and also starred in the film ‘Christmas Comes to Willow Creek’. Soon after this, she was cast in the thriller ‘The Drifter’, a film about a successful single lady who picks up an odd hitchhiker on a deserted road.
In the ensuing years, Delaney played Alex Devlin in the CBS TV series ‘Tour of Duty’. She also featured in the television movies ‘Lady Boss’, ‘The Fifth Corner’ and ‘The Disappearance of Christina’.
She appeared as Sarah Flynn in ‘The Force’ alongside Jason Gedrick and Yasmine Bleeth. The movie follows a rookie police official who has frightening nightmares after his pal and fellow police officer is killed under suspicious circumstances. The latter’s soul eventually enters the official’s body so as to seek revenge for his murder.
In the early 2000s, Delaney played Kathleen Maguire in the sitcom ‘Philly’. During this time, she also starred as Megan Donner in ten episodes of ‘CSI: Miami’. Soon after this, she appeared in the NBC miniseries ‘10.5’ as Dr. Samantha Hill, a role she reprised in the series’ 2006 sequel ‘10.5: Apocalypse’.
She joined the cast of ‘Army Wives’ as Claudia Joy Holden. Premiered on Lifetime in June 2007, the series followed the daily lives of four army wives and their families. Delaney appeared in the show for six seasons while the show ran for seven seasons, ending on June 9, 2013.
In 2016, the actress featured in two episodes of ‘Murder in the First’. Two years later, she had a role in Harold Cronk’s Christian drama flick ‘God Bless the Broken Road’.

Kim Delaney has been married twice till date. From 1984 to 1988, she was married to actor Charles Grant. Her second marriage was to actor Joseph Cortese. The couple married in 1989 and separated in 1994. They have a son named Jack. Delaney was engaged to Alan Barnette, a producer, from 1997 to 2006.
In 2002, she was arrested on suspicion of driving under influence. She was subsequently fined, sentenced to two years’ probation, and ordered to take a defensive driving course.
In the year 2005, the actress lost the custody of her son after endangering his life by compelling him to travel with her when she was driving while intoxicated.
