Career
Lia began her career as a street dancer. She would initially compete in various dance competitions, and that helped her get noticed in the industry. However, Lia eventually quit street dancing. She then turned toward professional choreography.
Lia has participated in many national and international competitions. She bagged the second place in the popping category at the ‘Euro Battle’ held in Portugal. She was the popping winner at the 'World Dance Competition' and ‘POP LOCK LAIDIES.’ Lia has also aced the 'Dosi Hip-hop Festival.'
Lia has been associated with South Korean entertainment companies such as 'JYP Entertainment' and 'SM Entertainment.' Soon, she co-founded the '1Million Dance Studio.' Lia is also the head choreographer of the studio. Located in the Gangnam District in Seoul, the studio offers training in various dance forms. '1Million Dance Studio’ has a 'YouTube' channel that hosts its in-house dance choreographies. The channel now has over 11 million subscribers.
Lia has performed at various international events. She graced the opening act of the ‘Jarret Show' at the 2017 'New York Fashion Week.' She has worked with several talent agencies and entertainment companies such as 'CJ E&M,' 'SM Entertainment,' 'YG Entertainment,' 'JYP Entertainment,' and 'LOEN Entertainment.'
As an international choreographer, Lia has choreographed dance routines for many pop artists and bands such as 'TWICE,’ BoA, 'EXID,' 'Girls' Generation,' 'Wonder Girls,' Sunmi, ‘2NE1,’ ‘Miss A,' Jay Park, 'f(x),' Son Dam-bi, Jang Woo Hyuk, 'Got7,' '2PM,' 'After School,' 'Playback,' 'Melody Day,' 'WANNA.B,' and ‘Dreamcatcher.’ Lia has judged dance competitions and reality shows such as 'Astro Battleground’ and 'World of Dance.' She has also participated in the 'Urban Dance Camp' and the 'Fair Play Dance Camp' as the head instructor. Lia was the lead choreographer for one of Korean singer Lee Hyo Lee’s concerts.
Lia dances wearing high heels. Her preferred dance styles are hip-hop and street funk. Over the years, she has acquired skills in various other dance forms, too. Her dance style has undergone a transformation from a pure street style to a more commercial style. Lia also teaches high-heel choreography at the 'Brain Dance Studio.'
Lia owns a 'YouTube' channel where she posts her dance choreographies. Her first choreography video, ‘Eric Benet - Hurricane │ Astro Battle Ground Live in Malaysia,' was posted in December 2013. One of her most popular choreography videos on the channel is on the track ‘Promises’ by Skrillex.
Lia owns a brand named 'GΔCHI.' The brand is a production movement that strives toward the empowerment of women. In 2016, Korean streetwear brand ‘KORELIMITED’ collaborated with 'GΔCHI.' The collaboration was named 'KORE X GΔCHI' and was the first of its kind. The brand offers an exclusive range of jackets, shirts, hats, and joggers. Lia is also a fashion designer and has an online fashion store called 'SHOP LIA.'
Lia won the award for the 'Choreographer of The Year' at the 2018 'Gaon Chart Music Awards.'
Personal Life
Lia was born Kim Hye Rang, on July 10, 1987, in Seoul, South Korea. She is an alumna of 'Dong-Seoul University,' Seoul, and later earned a degree in hip-hop dance from 'Yon-Sei University.'
Lia is most comfortable in denims paired with a pair of classy high boots. She loves cats and pandas. Her favorite color is red. She is fond of fried eggs and shrimp.
