Liam Thompson Bio

Liam Michael Thompson was born on April 25, 2000, in Auckland, New Zealand, to Jill and Will Thompson. He has three sisters: Alex, Isla, and Evie.

Liam studied at the Balmoral School and Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland. He excelled in math and physics in school.

Following his graduation in 2018, he joined an engineering college. However, he dropped out soon to pursue a career on YouTube.

For a while, he had also kept his options open and had joined police college. He also began moving furniture part-time and considered joining film school. However, he later made YouTube his full-time career, though he was initially discouraged by his parents to follow it as a career path.

He also engages in orienteering at times.

Liam Thompson’s self-titled YouTube channel has gained over 1.27 million subscribers and more than an astounding 115 million views to date. He had launched the channel on April 11, 2016. However, he has been posting content on YouTube since mid-2019.

His first video, I ran 10km a day for a year, was posted on May 17, 2019. His channel’s success soared after he posted his most popular video to date, I Taught My Dog to Play Minecraft, on September 29, 2019. The video has gained over 16 million views to date. It featured his pet labradoodle, Max. Liam gave his dog treats to successfully teach him to step on giant, custom-made keyboard buttons and play Minecraft.

Back then, he had just 80 subscribers, but within a week of posting the video, he had 150 thousand. Some of his videos also feature his cat Frodo.

Most of his videos do not have any common theme. In July 2020, his YouTube channel hit the million-subscriber mark. He celebrated with a video the following day, which showed him buying Max a million dog biscuits.

He once made a video which showed him creating and posting his first meme to PewDiePie's Subreddit.

His Instagram account, liamthompsonofficial, has gained over 45.5 thousand followers. He has a TikTok account, liamthompsonofficial, but does not use it much.

When Liam Thompson dropped out of engineering college and told his parents that he wanted to become a full-time YouTuber, they gave him a 3-month ultimatum to make some progress on YouTube and told him he would have to find a proper job if he could not find success on YouTube.

Initially, his videos mostly got repeat clicks from his mother and very few views. However, things changed after his Minecraft video featuring Max became viral. Liam now owns a Tesla (a black model 3). However, he was too young to take a test drive when he bought it. He also needed his parents’ approval for buying it, although with his own money.

He now mostly earns though his YouTube ads. He spends 4 days per video: 2 for finalizing the concept, a day for filming, and another day for editing.

He mostly rewards Max with corn flakes, Max’s favorite food, after shooting the videos.

After his Minecraft video became viral, Liam’s parents started charging him $150 per week as rent and also monitored his account for offensive comments.

Some of his topics include YouTube food trends, turning into a computer game character in real life, and sleeping in a house made of tinfoil.

On April 24, 2020, Liam Thompson qualified to be a US Navy SEAL after finishing a fitness test in his backyard.

Some of his favorite YouTubers are David Dobrik, Pewdiepie, Casey Nesitat, and Graham Stephan.

One of his favorite destinations is Florida.
