Liya Perez started posting on her Instagram profile in March 2019 and often shared pictures of herself posing in fashionable clothing and swimsuits. On October 30, 2021, she posted several pictures showing her cosplay as the Mortal Kombat character Kitana. She also occasionally squeezed in images from cartoons and films or of emojis in between her pictures and selfies.

A former gymnast, she has been passionate about dancing and started to showcase her talent on TikTok, which she joined in May 2019. She was able to gain popularity on the platform very quickly by sharing lip-syncs, dance videos and funny clips. She crossed one million followers on TikTok in early 2020, which she celebrated with golden colored balloons representing “1” and “M” and shared several pictures on her Instagram on Feb 2, 2020.

At the peak of her popularity, she often collaborated with fellow TikTok stars like Elena Stavinoha, (Malcolm Thiagos, several members of The Vault House including Mariano Castano and Peyton Moormeier, and her then-boyfriend Jordan Powell. However, she became less active during 2021, purged some of her videos and went on a months-long hiatus, but has started posting on the platform again.

While Liya Perez usually posts fashion pictures on her Instagram, she took an exception to raise her voice against police brutality and racial injustice following the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor during the first half of 2020. In one Instagram post from June 1st, she shared a series of images which contained names of many of the African-American people who were recently killed in racially motivated attacks, as well as slogans like “Silence is Violence” and “Who do you call when the police murders”. She sought justice for those killed and asked her followers to speak up against such injustice by sharing a quote by Martin Luther King Jr. that read, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

In the accompanying caption, she lamented the lack of actions taken in curbing abuses by police officers citing the rising racial disparity in the justice system and urged her followers to make sure their voices are heard by their local politicians. She further added that people should not wait till such a tragedy hits them “close to home, to your family, or friends”. Days later, she shared a black image on Instagram in support of the “Blackout Tuesday” movement, a collective call to action against perceived racism and police brutality. Interestingly, she had once “sandwiched” between her sexy swimsuit snaps a public service announcement about the importance of young people being vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus.

Liya Perez was born on October 8, 2001 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. She is of Puerto Rican descent and has four siblings. She danced with her mother in a Mothers’ Day TikTok video. She participated in gymnastics and track and field events when she was in high school. She moved from Illinois to Texas in 2019 and has been to Los Angeles, California. She has several tattoos all over her body, including one along her spine, and recently revealed her intention of getting more tattoos. She likes to dye strands of her hair in different colors like yellow, pink or purple.

Liya Perez was in a relationship with fellow TikTok star Jordan Powell in 2020-21, during which period the two often appeared in each other’s Instagram posts and TikTok videos. However, she seems to have deleted most pictures and videos of him from her social media profiles, even though a few of her TikTok videos featuring him can still be found in her account. On the other hand, his Instagram profile still contains pictures and videos of them together, but he does not maintain his Instagram anymore and his TikTok account was either deleted or hacked.
