Rise to Stardom

Logdotzip, who grew up playing games on SNES, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation 2, created his YouTube channel at the age of 14 on July 15, 2006. However, he only began uploading content to the channel the next year, covering the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Runescape once every 1-2 week. When he got his first paycheck from YouTube of $108 in November 2011, he got a condenser microphone to increase the audio quality of his videos, but he was still not considering YouTube as a career option. In fact, he took a six-months-long hiatus from YouTube to focus on his college education.

In May 2013, he attended a YouTube event in Los Angeles, where he personally met his online friend Adam, now well-recognized for his Sky Does Everything YouTube channel, with whom he used to make content as a teenager. Adam, who had gained success with Minecraft content recently, explained to him new monetization opportunities on YouTube, following which he began uploading Minecraft videos regularly every day. Origin of His Gamertag

Since he was 10 or 12, Logdotzip, a fan of the Japanese manga series Yu-Gi-Oh!, wanted to join an online forum run by a person with the username ‘LordObelisk’, derived from the Yu-Gi-Oh! card ‘Obelisk The Tormentor’, one of three ‘God Cards’ on the show and the card game. He liked the idea and made his own username ‘LordOfGods’, which he used for a while. However, when he moved from Yu-Gi-Oh! to other online forums, he realized that people would not know the origin of his username and might get offended. As such, he shortened it to ‘LoG’ and added ‘.zip’ to the end of his forum display name following a popular trend. In time, ‘LoG.zip’ became his current username, ‘Logdotzip’.

Turning His Passion into a Business

Logdotzip had about 50K subscribers when he attended Pax Prime in August 2013 and got his first taste of fame when he was recognized by several fans. By the time he attended E3 in Los Angeles in 2016, he was still producing content daily and wanted to expand, but had reached the limits of his personal capacity. There he met Mike Bienstock from Semaphore who advised him to employ others to help him expand. Two years later, he was running a full-fledged business with at least 10 full-time employees, including a producer, a couple editors, a graphics designer, five developers and an executive assistant, apart from an entertainment attorney, a chief operating officer, and Bienstock, who handled his finances.

Back in August 2014, he had founded Logdotzip Studios Inc., which covered the digital assets of his network of YouTube channels focused on gaming. He was also serving as the founder and CEO of Dotzip Developments LLC, a game development company that he created in August 2017 to collaborate with Minecraft creator Mojang and owner Microsoft on a big project. He was one of the first creators Microsoft approached to become a partner when Minecraft Marketplace was launched in 2017. In December 2018, he announced the release of his Minecraft game Big Block Island, becoming the first YouTuber to build a development team and release a game on Microsoft‘s Minecraft Marketplace. In June that year, he had also launched another YouTube channel focused on the Pocket Edition of Minecraft, and now has several other YouTube channels designed to cater to his diverse range of followers.
