Luis de Matos is a Portuguese magician whose televised performances brought many new fans to the art form. His extensive television appearances have been hugely influential in the world of magic, especially in Portugal and other European countries. Early in his career he made guest appearances on TV shows, but his charisma and talent quickly landed him his own TV shows dedicated to the performance of magic. He now writes, creates, produces and hosts many of his own television events as well as making ongoing appearances in popular international television shows. He founded his own studio, ‘ESTÚDIO33’, and equipped the space with rehearsal resources, a performing theater, and magic workshops where he can develop new and mystifying techniques. He is also responsible for founding and producing the 'Essential Magic Collection', a series of DVDs for professional magicians to help train and teach new techniques. He is a member of the ‘Magic Circle’ and is the youngest member to be honored with 'The David Devant Award', which recognizes his significant contributions to furthering magic in the media. He is well known for single-handedly inspiring many new fans of magic with his memorable magical events, and has also been instrumental in teaching other magicians to follow in his footsteps

Childhood & Early Life
Luis de Matos was born on August 23, 1970, in Portuguese Mozambique. Mozambique remained a Portuguese territory until five years after de Matos' birth, at which time his family moved to Portugal.
After his family moved, he grew up near the Portuguese city of Coimbra. He earned his Bachelor's degree in agricultural technical engineering from ‘Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra’.

Career
Luis de Matos began his magic career in Portugal, in 1990, with guest appearances on popular TV shows. Within two years he had his own magic themed TV show, 'Isto é Magia!' ('This is Magic'), followed by several others including 'NoiteMágica', 'Ilusões com Luis de Matos' and 'Luis de Matos Ao Vivo'.
In addition to his television appearances in Portugal he has been on television programs worldwide. He is popular is Spain for appearance in the native language shows 'Shalakabula' and 'Por Arte de Magia', and he currently appears worldwide as a regular in the ninth season of TVG's ongoing series 'LUAR'.
In addition to memorable performances, de Mato is dedicated to helping fellow magicians learn their trade better. In 1995, he published 'O MundoMágico de Luis de Matos' ('Luis de Matos Magic World') about his career as a performer.
De Matos is well known for his theatrical, dramatic and artistic sensibilities. He was a magic consultant to ‘Portugal’s National Theatre’, and served as the artistic director of the ‘FISM 2000’ for the ‘International Federation of Magic Societies’.
In 2010, Luis de Matos organized the first and only online magical conference for magicians from all over the world to learn and share their art. ‘The Essential Magic Conference’ was successfully run for the next two years with over 2000 people attending the online event.
Today, de Matos continues to be heavily involved with magic performances and produces annual Street Magic Festivals throughout Portugal. These elaborate festivals bring together performers from all around and are a showcase of magical talents.
Major Works
He is the founder and producer of the pioneering DVD series, the 'Essential Magic Collection'. This comprehensive collection is a teaching and training resource for performing magicians and features high quality video tutorials.
De Matos is currently established in ‘ESTÚDIO33’, home of ‘Luis de Matos Productions’ in Ansião, Portugal. The purpose-built studio is a theater, rehearsal space and recording studio for his ongoing personal projects as well as a reference library and workshop.
Awards & Achievements
The ‘Hollywood Academy of Magical Arts’ has awarded him three times. He received their 1995 'Award of Merit', and four years later he was presented with their coveted 'Magician of the year' award.
He received his third award from ‘Hollywood Academy of Magical Arts’in 2013 when they gave him a 'Special Fellowship Award' in recognition of his pioneering achievement in the media.
In 2013, together with magicians Lu Chen and Dynamo, he was co-winner of the ‘Magic Golden Grolla Award’. This prestigious Italian award is given to important public figures in all art forms.
In October 2013, he became the youngest magician ever to be granted 'The David Devant Award' by ‘The Magic Circle’. This award is reserved for people who make a significant contribution to magic internationally.
Personal Life & Legacy
Luis de Matos is already recognized as one of the most influential and recognizable Portuguese magicians of all time. He has received multiple awards for his willingness to teach and train fellow magicians and bring new fans to the art form.
Trivia
This famous magician is the ‘Guinness World Records’ holder for vanishing 52,001 silk handkerchiefs simultaneously. He produced and starred in this event at the opening ceremony of the ‘Estádio do Dragão’ football stadium in Porto, Portugal
