She is best known for winning the sixteenth season of popular singing competition TV series ‘American Idol.’ In 2018, she won ‘People's Choice Award’ and ‘Talent Recap Fan Choice Award’ for her performance in ‘American Idol.’ After winning the reality TV series, Poppe released her first studio album ‘Whirlwind’ through ‘Hollywood Records’ on May 17, 2019. The album had many songs, including the hit single ‘Made You Miss’ which peaked at number 30 on the ‘US Adult Pop’ chart. Apart from singing, Maddie Poppe can play the guitar, piano, and ukulele. Childhood & Early Life
Maddie Poppe was born Madeline Mae Poppe on December 5, 1997, in Clarksville, Iowa, USA, to Trent and Tonya Poppe. She started singing at a young age and began performing in front of her classmates while attending middle school.
Being a guitarist himself, Poppe’s father Trent encouraged his daughter to perform alongside him for his band. One such song which they performed together was ‘Sweet Child o' Mine’ by American hard rock band ‘Guns N' Roses.’ She then showed off her skills in local talent shows and also performed at the ‘Butler County Fairgrounds’ in Allison, Iowa.
In early 2016, Poppe auditioned for a place in the singing competition series ‘The Voice’ where she sang ‘Dog Days Are Over’ by English indie rock band ‘Florence and the Machine.’ Unfortunately, she was not selected to perform in the show. The episode, in which she auditioned, was aired on February 29, 2016, on ‘NBC.’
In June 2016, she released her debut extended play (EP) ‘Songs from the Basement.’ In the same month, she also opened for the popular Christian country music band ‘Diamond Rio’ at the county fair in Iowa. In 2016, she graduated from ‘Clarksville High School.’

Career
In 2017, Poppe’s father told her about the auditions being held for the 16th season of ‘American Idol.’ She then auditioned for the show in New York where she sang ‘Rainbow Connection’ from the 1979 musical comedy film ‘The Muppet Movie.’ After impressing the judges, she got into the show and began her journey in ‘American Idol.’
Poppe entered ‘Top 50’ and eventually became one of the top 24 contestants in the show. During one of the rounds, she performed a song titled ‘Bubbly’ alongside American singer-songwriter Colbie Marie Caillat. After entering ‘Top 14,’ she performed songs like ‘Homeward Bound’ and ‘Walk Like an Egyptian.’
Poppe eventually entered the show’s finale alongside fellow contestants Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Gabby Barrett. During the final, she performed her original song titled ‘Don't Ever Let Your Children Grow Up.’ She also performed ‘Landslide’ by British-American rock band ‘Fleetwood Mac.’ For her winner’s single, she sang ‘Going Going Gone,’ which was originally written by Julia Michaels, Lindy Robbins, and Mitch Allan.
Maddie Poppe was declared winner on the episode aired on May 21, 2018, on ‘ABC’ television network. Subsequently, she won ‘People's Choice Award’ under the category, ‘Competition Contestant of 2018.’ She also won ‘Favorite Reality TV Competition Contestant of 2018’ award at the ‘Talent Recap Fan Choice Awards.’ In 2018, she also released two non-album singles, namely ‘Keep On Movin' On’ and ‘Going Going Gone.’ Her song ‘Going Going Gone’ peaked at number 13 on the ‘Digital Songs’ chart in the US.

The fifth song on her album, ‘Made You Miss,’ went on to become a massive hit and peaked at number 30 on the ‘US Adult Pop’ chart. Apart from releasing her album in 2019, she also came up with two non-album singles, namely ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ and ‘Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree.’
After winning ‘American Idol,’ Poppe started appearing in many TV shows. In 2018, she was seen in several shows, including ‘Entertainment Tonight Canada,’ ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ ‘Live! with Kelly,’ ‘Good Morning America,’ and ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ She also appeared in a TV movie titled ‘The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration.’ In 2019, she appeared in one of the episodes of the popular TV show ‘Celebrity Page.’
