Maryam Masud Laam’s YouTube channel, Maryam Masud, was created on January 6, 2008, and she first appeared on the channel on October 25, 2009, at the age of three, reciting a couple Surahs. For the first few years, her parents occasionally uploaded a few videos featuring her recitations of many verses from the Qur'an and sometimes her participation in various Qur'an quizzes and competitions. They had also set up a Facebook page to promote her content and her YouTube channel. She began to appear more regularly on the channel in 2013, and the following year, started the “Qur'an with Maryam” series. Also in 2013, she earned one of her earliest achievements of becoming the Helping Hand (HHRD) Qur'an Champion.
Maryam Masud Laam was actively involved with the GuideUS TV kids program and won the 2014 GuideUS TV Qur'an Competition at eight. Outside of GuideUS TV, she also hosted the program called “The Daily Reminder”. Maryam gained further exposure after she appeared on “The Deen Show”, hosted by Eddie Redzovic, on November 14, 2014, followed by an appearance on the world-wide channel Al Jazeera the next year. On June 6, 2015, at the age of nine, she completed her Hifz Graduation, becoming a Hafiza, i.e. someone who has memorized the whole Qur'an. At the time, Maryam had only about 30k “friends” on her Facebook and about 200k followers on her YouTube channel. However, her popularity grew exponentially in the following years, especially after she started reciting parts of Qur'an to her younger sister Fatima and other kids to inspire and teach them. On October 4, 2020, she posted a picture of herself and her sister on her Instagram, posing with her Gold YouTube Play button awarded to her after crossing 1 million subscribers on YouTube.
Maryam Masud Laam was only two years old when she started memorizing the Qur'an. Both her parents helped her learn certain parts of the Qur'an, even though her mother Shakila was her main teacher. The experience was made easy and fun by her mother, who helped motivate her by employing many fun techniques, like racing her to memorize the verses, playing the Surahs while on car, or reciting them to her while doing household work. Every day after school, she finished her homework first before starting to memorize the Qur'an. Her goal for the “hereafter” is to be an Islamic Scholar, to which end she learnt the Arabic language. She has also been influenced heavily by her software engineer father and hopes to pursue a career in computer science and technology in the future. She mentioned that her father often attends the Google IO conference and involves the children in implementing the “cool ideas” he brings home. While her father primarily filmed and edited her earlier videos, by 2018, she had already learned to edit videos herself.
