Matthew Nichols started making TikTok videos at the beginning of his senior year in high school. He was hanging out with one of his teammates from his high school soccer team who first drew his attention towards some videos on the app. After watching fun videos for over an hour, the two decided to make one themselves. They tried their best to make the perfect video and even though they did not expect much from it, they were pleasantly surprised to see it receiving over 2000 views by the next morning. It encouraged Matthew to post more videos on the platform. His third video gained around 12K views, while his fifth video went viral on TikTok, earning him 400k views. At that point he knew he “was in it for the long run”, not only because he was making other people happy, but also because he was having fun making videos. He had started to gain notoriety on TikTok in August 2019, and by the end of the next year, he had amassed 1.2 million fans on the platform. Matthew, who is a fan of famous social media personality David Dobrik, hopes to collaborate with him someday and feels that they both exude positivity.

Matthew Nichols, along with some of his childhood friends, is a part of the small business called “Unxpectd”, which was initially a high school senior project but turned out to be a full-fledged clothing brand. As the brand matured, the boys took it to social media, especially TikTok. While Matthew is not involved in the day-to-day activates of the brand, he contributes significantly to its social media marketing. He often made videos promoting the brand on various platforms including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Eventually in September 2020, he and his friend moved to Los Angeles, California to allow the brand more opportunities for growth and themselves better learning environment. Shortly after the move, they brainstormed ideas to make a video to draw attention to the brand. In December that year, they posted a TikTok video in which Matthew was seen wearing a dress in a tub full of Fruit Loops. The video, which was the brand’s first viral video that gained over 600k views, was conceptualized as a parody of a similar video with rose petals by another content house, The Wave House. In an interview in December 2020, Matthew Nichols told the music and pop culture website When I Make It To LA. that he feels what makes him “stand out from other creators is positivity and genuineness”. According to him, while most content creators show people only what they want them to see, he likes to be honest and real with his “friends”. Also, he considers his followers his friends as his fan base has become more like his extended family. He has further stated that pushing out content on social media has bolstered his confidence as he now knows that more than a million people are there to support him in his ventures. He further added that he has evolved his content since starting his journey on social media. While his early content was aimed at a very young audience, he is now making more mature comedy.

Matthew Nichols was born on March 20, 2002 in Kentucky, United States. His mother’s name is Karen Walls, but his father’s name is not known. He has two siblings named Mackie and Meredith Nichols. While he doesn’t usually feature his family members in his videos, he once shared a picture with them on his Instagram. He is a very energetic dancer and regularly participates in musical theatre.
