Melanie Liburd is a British actress who gained initial prominence for her roles in the TV series ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘The Grinder’. A native of the county of Hertfordshire, Liburd always harboured an interest in acting. She attended The Identity School of Acting in London. Prior to pursuing a career in acting, she was a fashion model. Liburd made her acting debut in the 2009 television film ‘The Selection’, portraying a character named Fiona Castley. Three years later, she was cast as the recurring character Asmara in Sky One and Cinemax’s series ‘Strike Back’. After a series of guest and cameo appearances in both British and American television shows, she landed her first significant role as Ivy Dexter in the short-lived legal comedy ‘The Grinder’. She made an appearance in HBO’s fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’ as well. In 2016, she began playing Nyx Harper in the season two of Syfy’s science fiction series ‘Dark Matter’. She was a series regular in the Naomi Watts-starrer ‘Gypsy’. In 2018, she joined the cast of NBC’s comedy-drama TV series ‘This Is Us’. Liburd made her cinematic debut in the 2015 drama ‘Runaway Island’.

Melanie Liburd debuted on the small screen in the 2009 TV movie ‘The Selection’. Based on the popular young adult novel by Kiera Cass, the film revolves around a working-class young woman, who gets picked in a lottery to take part in a competition with 34 other women for the chance to wed a prince. Liburd portrayed Fiona Castley, one of the girls competing for the prince’s hand.
In 2012, she played a character named Asmara in two episodes of the season three of the British/American action-adventure/spy-drama ‘Strike Back’. Her next appearance was in a 2013 episode of the British-American horror drama ‘Dracula’. That year, she also starred in the television film ‘What Would Dylan Do?’ In 2014, she guest-starred in two CBS’ police procedural crime dramas: ‘Stalker’ and ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’.
In 2015, she made her big screen debut in Dianne Houston’s directorial venture ‘Runaway Island’. Also starring Lorraine Toussaint, Aisha Hinds, and Thomas Q. Jones, the film depicts the story of a group of strangers seeking solace from the “hurricane of life” on a remote island. Liburd portrayed a character named Kira Geoffries. That year, Liburd also landed her first major role on television. She was cast as the recurring character Ivy Dexter in Fox’s single-camera comedy ‘The Grinder’. While the show was cancelled after one season, it was received positively by both critics and viewers. Later that year, she played a character named Amanda in the fantasy drama ‘How Sarah Got Her Wings’.
In 2016, she portrayed a red priestess in the season six episode ‘No One’ of HBO’s fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’. She also became part of the cast of ‘Dark Matter’ that year. Liburd’s character, Nyx Harper, is a seer. Despite being a loner, she is extremely agile and has a deep passion for weapons. She was a series regular in season two and made guest appearances in season three.
In 2017, Liburd shared screen space with Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup, and Poorna Jagannathan in Netflix’s psychological thriller ‘Gypsy’. Liburd became a member of the ‘This Is Us’ cast in season two as a guest star. She was promoted to a series regular in the third season. Liburd plays Zoe Baker, who is Kevin Pearson’s (Justin Hartley) new girlfriend.

Melanie Liburd was born on November 11, 1987, in Hertfordshire, England, to an English woman named Georgina and a Kittitian man named Michael. She has two brothers, Marc and Leon. Her mother has been a realtor while her father has been a martial artist. Since she was a child, she has been interested in acting. When she was nine years old, she was cast as a rat in her school’s production of a play based on the English folklore called ‘Dick Whittington and His Cat’. Liburd has admitted that she was shy as a child and was very happy when she landed the role. She and the rest of the cast of the play reportedly danced to Michael Jackson.
While she developed a deep passion for acting at an early age, her first love was art. She was an art history student and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fashion design. She subsequently started working as a fashion and beauty model and spent considerable time in that industry.
