Melissa Womer is an American actress, producer, and writer. She is known for her acting roles in the motion films ‘Petrocelli’ and ‘Man on the Moon’ as well as for producing the TV programs ‘Real Stories of Donut Men’ and ‘The Yesterday Show with John Kerwin’. Nicknamed the ‘Comedy Store Waitress’, Melissa Womer started her career as a cocktail waitress at a comedy store. Despite not achieving much mainstream success, she has still managed to capture the public’s attention owing to her marriage to Hollywood superstar Jim Carrey. Born in New York City in the USA, she was raised in a dysfunctional family. Her early life was fraught with struggles but despite the challenges, the determined young lady worked hard to build a good life for herself. She went on to attend the University of Kansas before entering Hollywood where she made a name for herself in the comedy scene. Besides being an actress, she is also a writer and producer by profession and has also contributed to a handful of TV shows in these capacities.

During her university days, Melissa Womer did odd jobs like writing jokes for a morning radio show in Kansas City. After graduation, she moved to Hollywood and landed a stint as a cocktail waitress at a comedy store at the Sunset Boulevard. Soon after, Womer got a chance to feature in an open mic night at the store. With time, she became one of the favorite characters at the comedy store.
Eventually, she got the opportunity to act in films. Her first motion picture was ‘Petrocelli’ that came out in 1974. After this, she appeared in the flick ‘Man on the Moon’. Womer has also produced a few reality television series, such as ‘The Yesterday Show with John Kerwin’ and ‘Real Stories of Donut Men’.

Relationship with Jim Carrey
Melissa Womer caught the public’s attention when she met the then-struggling actor and comedian Jim Carrey at the Comedy Store. The two instantly bonded with each other and started dating in 1986. The following year, they got married at a hotel in Santa Monica, California.
A few months after their marriage, on September 6, 1987, Womer gave birth to Carrey’s daughter, Jane Erin Carrey. Their marriage didn’t last long. In the mid-1990s, Carrey filed for divorce from Womer stating that their respective busy careers had led to the breakdown of their relationship. However, according to some reports, he divorced her to be with the Hollywood heartthrob Lauren Holly.
Womer asked for around $5-10 million as the divorce settlement from Carrey. However, she received only $3.5 million. After eight years of their separation, she got $7 million for her daughter Jane.

Melissa Womer was born on 8 July 1960 in the USA. In 2010, she became a grandmother when her daughter Jane gave birth to Alex Santana’s child, Jackson Riley. Santana is the lead vocalist of the metal band Blood Money. Currently, Jane and Santana are divorced and have joint custody of their son.
